Replacing harddrives on MacBook!

The 250 Gb harddrive died on my "Penryn" (early 2008) Macbook recently and I'm wondering if I can replace with any 250 GB 5400 RPM
SATA Harddrive?

Currently I'm looking at one HITACHI Travelstar 5K500.B HTS545025B9A300 (0A57912) 250GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

and one Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD2500BEVS 250GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 1.5Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

but I don't know whether 3.0Gbs or 1.5Gbs works or is preferred!

Will either of these drives work on my Penryn MacBook?

MacBook Pro Newbie Issues

I recently purchased a 13" MacBook Pro. 2.53 model.
I'm somewhat new to the Mac world..

Simply put, so far I have 2 issues.

1) Any USB mouse is jumpy and horribly imprecise. It's unusable.

2) Bad picture using external LCD
I've tried my 22" Samsung SyncMaster225BW and the new 24" Dell UltraSharp (the one that gets all the rave reviews) THe picture just doesn't look good. I've tried "calibrating"

Is there something simple I'm missing with these two issues?

Latest Apple tablet rumor: Feb. 2010

A new report on Apple's long-rumored tablet device cites Taiwanese suppliers with a number of alleged specifics, including price, launch window and parts.

Steve Chuang of Taiwan Economic Times has cited "a couple of Taiwanese suppliers of PC parts and components" in a report that claims the device will debut in February 2010 with a price between $799 and $999. The rumored device is alleged to have a 9.6-inch touchscreen, a chip from Apple-owned P.A. Semi, built-in 3G HSDPA, and a "long lasting battery pack."

"Outbidding its Taiwanese counterpart Simplo Technology Co., Ltd., DynaPack International Technology Corp. has been exclusively contracted to supply up to 300,000 units of long lasting battery packs a month for Apple`s newest tablet PCs," the report said. "Bearing higher gross profits than conventional models, the long lasting battery packs are expected to serve as a profit booster for the firm in the future."

Yeah, it runs in the family, it also runs with $$$$$...

M-Audio firmware slowing down shutdown.

I have an M-audio (oxygen 8, older model) midi surface that i use with garage band through usb , it works fine, but the problem is that it makes shutdown longer than it takes to shutdown my windows pc (that's saying something). the only way i have figured out to stop it is manually through activity monitor (a process called "M-Audio firmware")
my question is, is there any way to change the start up plug ins so it only runs when i need it to run?
I have already tried the start-up programs under my administrator account, but it looks like it is running under root.

I don't think this will help any, but my laptop model is:
Macbook 13 inch white 2.1 ghz, 2 gb of ram, 320 gb hdd, running os x 10.5.8
