ACER Monitor Problem

My ACER monitor, 21" Widesceren I believe, which I got in an open box deal from a local retailer (future shop) had a dot with distorted color (a pixel that did was messed up).

Naturally, I got a discount for it and I've been using it for over a year now without any problems.

I would just like to ask, what type of problem is this?

Can it be fixed?

Is it harmful to my system in any manner?

DVI cable won't fit?

Okay, this may be a really rookie question to ask but i'm really flabbergasted...

So I bought this monitor from newegg:

Didn't come with a dvi cable...no biggie i ordered one separately, this one:

Problem is...the cable wont fit into the dvi port on the monitor! The problem is in the long horizontal pin..there are smaller pins surrounding it on the cable, but no corresponding holes on the monitor...my question is, did i buy the wrong type of dvi cable, or is there something wrong with my monitor, like a defective "port hole"....any help would be great..thanks!

I have learned the joy of reading when my LED screen is rotated to be in the same orientation as if it were a book.

I am using the PDF reader which allows me do this. I simply flip my laptop, then I can see the whole page, to turn a page I just hit the right or left mouse buttons.

I am using an Acer 5739 which has a polarized LED screen, making it impossible to see the details of an image when not viewed on the horizontal. If anyone does not understand how a polarized films works I can explain it.

I would to have a monitor set to 90 degrees to use as a reading monitor basically the same size as this 15.6 laptop screen. Is there such a thing?

Now, my cable provider has FULL HD support, etc. I don't wanna have a TV in my room, but I wanna be able to watch a few things on it every now and then. So, if I plug the HDMI from the TV decoder directly into the monitor's port, would it work?

PS: I'm more inclined on buying me the Hanns G one, cause it's bigger and it has got great reviews, tho the other one is an Asus (great company) and has a better response time.

annoying monitor problem

I have a Dell 24" LCD (1920x1200 (running at native res)) that works fine most of the time. However, at system startup or whenever I come back from having the screen saver on (or sometimes when exiting from a game) the screen stays black and I have to reset the display type because the monitor loses the signal from the computer and goes into standby mode. I then need to cycle through the input modes (DVI-D; S-video; Composite; Component; VGA; DVI-D) using a button on the front panel until I get back to DVI and then the desktop pops back up. Sometimes I need to alt-tab to get the task manager menu (Vista) up before the display will come back on. This has been happening for a year through several video driver updates and with both overclocked CPU/video card and not. I am not sure if it is the video card or the monitor.

E8500 @ 4.1 GHz

Asus P5Q Dlx - 4 GB OCZ DDR2 1066

EVGA 8800 GTX (using either of the DVI outputs)

Help with troubleshooting this problem would be welcome.

Would I be able to play my PS3 on this monitor? If so, would I only get 720p out of it due to the 1680x1050 resolution limit on the monitor itself?

I've read that the monitor needs to be HDCP compliant (which the 226CW seems to be), but I wanted to make sure that specific cable would bridge the gap between an HDMI slot and a DVI-D slot.

TFT LCD Panel Manufacturers - Which is "better?"

I'm tired of seeing people come in here asking for recommendations for an LCD panel and then hearing people start suggesting brand names such as HP, Dell, or Gateway, saying something on the lines of "well I used this HP and it was the great!."

Alright, that's nice. Unfortunately, its not good enough to recommend an LCD panel to someone based on that alone.

Fact: Samsung and LG make the best TFT LCD panels on the consumer market.

Fact: Samsung, LG, and Hanns-G, and in most case, NEC make their own TFT LCD panels

Fact: In most cases, HP, Dell, Gateway, and Sony do *not* make their own TFT LCD panels.

Example: if you buy an HP monitor with a specific model number, you may be getting a Samsung, LG, or Innnolux panel. The latter is a low quality panel manufacturer, and will not be as high quality as the two former manufacturers. This is why you'll find discrepancies in reviews on monitors made by a specific brand, and even discrepancies in a specific panel model. However, you'll notice that almost all Samsung and LG panels receive very high ratings on newegg. This is why.

What should this mean to you? In almost 100% of cases, when you buy a Samsung or an LG panel, you get a Samsung or LG panel. When you buy anything else, you run the risk of getting a low quality panel manufacturer. The only way to figure out who makes your panel is to take it apart and check the back of the TFT, or to check the panel's info in Everest. The only other exception I know of is Hanns-G, which I won't comment on since I don't know enough about them and don't want to sway people in the wrong direction.

I endorse Samsung and LG, as they manufacture their own panels. They are the top tier LCD manufactuers, and everyone else is either 2nd or 3rd place behind them.

monitor unable to show native res with windows7

From what ive seen upon reading around online this is an issue others are having as well but i am unable to select my monitors native resolution. The highest it will go is 1600x1200. I was wondering if there was some fix/work around for this as there are no drivers on the monitors cd and windows simply recognizes it as a generic non PnP monitor.

Its a VK246H hdmi 24 inch widescreen monitor w/native res of 1920x1080

Using a TV instead of a regular monitor?

Qustion About HDMI Carrying Audio

Let's say you have an HDMI output on your graphics card (like Radeon HD 4850) that carries audio. Would this TV get sound out from its speakers?

Low heat LCD monitors.

I am looking for an LCD monitor that talks about how much heat it puts out, or the lack of heat. I am going to be going with a 6 monitor setup and would like to keep the paint from melting off the walls... so to speak.

Can be anywhere from 22" up would like the main monitor to be +25"

Have done a few google searches, but not much discussion on how much heat is generated by the monitor. I have a Gateway FDP2485W and I know it is about 5° warmer than room temp.

uhmm i need help....just need help in DVI cables..and...my gaming pc has 9500 nvidia GT card it has VGA and DVI.. the DVI on my gfx card is DVI-I Dual Link and on my monitor the DVI cable is DVI-D Dual Link ...how can i connect my PC to my monitor with different cables on it..... i've already search in newegg like DVI to HDMI and DVI- I to DVI- D and i cant seem to find it.....please help mee... i wanna experience whats the diff between with the VGA and DVI...i was about to buy last night..i just cant find it....

Best 30" Monitors

Hey all! I was wondering what does everyone think is the best 30" monitor out there? I would be mostly watching anime/movies on it, gaming, and just all the typical stuff as in web surfing etc. I've been asking around and people are saying to go with the LG on Newegg, or go through Dell, or the HP on Newegg. I'd also like a monitor that doesn't get stuck or dead pixels. My current 25" Samsung I got from Costco will at times have stuck pixels. I just want a great monitor since I'll be spending a LOT of money on it!! Anybody who has these monitors giving feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

hello, i recently got the Acer h233h monitor. I have it connected through DVI and some of the options in the OSD are greyed out, like h position, v position focus, clock, and auto config. Anyone know how I can fix this?

samsung226bw flickering on startup

It's about 3 years old, and when I start it up, it flickers. It goes away after a few seconds (in the beginning, now takes increasingly longer). Anybody experience this? Any suggestions would be apprciated.

Monitor Help (T240HD, LG W2453V, VW266H, P2570)

I currently have an old Acer 22" 1680x1050 monitor (AL2216W) and I'm looking to upgrade to a monitor capable of 1920x1200. My budget is ~$300, so that rules out the Dell Ultrasharp 24", but I've been considering the following four and can't decide on what to get. I'm a heavy gamer (4870x2), and also have a massive collection of Blu-Rays in our theatre in the basement, so I'll stream movies to my computer quite often. Basically that means I just need a terrific all around monitor sub $300.

Any opinions on the below four would be great.

Resolution and scaling

I was wondering which resolution scales the best for gaming? I have a 1600x1050 and it works great for me but I don't have many games. I need to buy a monitor for my gamer inlaw and was going to go with the same resolution if some games might not look right at 1920x1080. The pc will have the Radeon 4890 1GB card in it with an i7 920. But, he has older games he loves. So which resolution would be the best choice in this situation?

Console gaming monitor?

I am new to this site so I thought I would break the ice by asking a little bit of a different question. The whole story goes like this, The first monitor I used for my PS3 was a 20'' dell w/ a 5ms response time. Next is the monitor I'm on now which is a Asus 21.5 1080p 2ms and I like it but I want something alittle bigger. So I have decided to go for a 23 or 24 inch monitor. The interesting part is that I want it to do more stuff, like be a tv/monitor. I have been looking at Samsung and LG, both of which I have never owned in any way shape or form. I just RMA'ed a Sceptre X240BVFHD because it just looked like c**p and very poor picture quality. It had a HDTV tuner in it and a 2ms response. i will be playing both PS3 & XBOX360 on the new monitor I finanally choose and watch TV and hook up my computer. So the fisrt one that I have narrowed it down to is Samsung T240HD. It has all of the connections I'm looking for but the resolution 1920x1200. I don't think that will look good for gaming. the next one is Samsung P2370HD which resolves my issue with the first one resolution,1920x1080 but only one HDMI input. The two monitors look almost the same, as far as spec wise but the P2370HD is a inch smaller. The last and final one is a LG M237WD-PM which is also 23 inches but 2 HDMI inputs. The downside is its 5ms (gtg) and the others as far as I can tell is 5ms (btw). The LG also has 1920x1080. I been looking around for reviews of these monitors and The most popular one say go with the T240HD for gaming but thats for computer gaming at 1920x1200. I would like some advice or opions or experience with any of these monitors.

If not Samsung, go with LG or Viewsonic?

looking to buy a "TV" monitor

I am looking to get the monitor to use as a TV hooked up to my cable box that supports HDMI. I see alot of monitors on newegg that advertise in the description 1080p. Could I still just use any monitor that has a HDMI input or does it have to specify 1080p to be able to use the monitor as a TV?
