The Eagle has landed.

As for the local ones I donated, I consider them to be CT donations. The first I needed help getting a mouse and some speakers. The second was a lo-tech system I collected, repaired and redistributed. I credit the Computer Tree because I would never bother with the old stuff for myself.

I remember reading your comments, but I didn't know it was a fact. If "I" didn't know, I guess most of the other members have not idea this donations were ever done. Maybe there were too many threads dealing with the same issue. Well, now we know.

I think its a driver issue still. It's a pretty old DVD-ROM drive. It even squeaks a little

I have DX9.0c installed so I could do some test gaming

VLC doesn't need a decoder, its built in.

I have contacted the person who requested this machine. We are go for launch

SMP made no difference. It doesn't recognize DVD movies. It says,"wrong action" when I try to start it

Freezy, I just remembered back in the day when I used 2000, before installing PowerDVD (which BTW comes with the DVD decoders) I had to install the DirectX 9.0.

I think I should have a PowerDVD disc with a license somewhere, I'm not longer using it, let me know if you still need it.

No firewall yet (I'm taking suggestions for anything easier than Zone Alarm), It doesn't like DVD movies. I can't find a decoder/driver for the DVD-ROM drive. I found a much better VGA than that 4000mx. It'll play most DX9 games. Its graphics are below the old ATI 9600 All-in Wonder card, so maybe shader1.5-ish or so.

XP Desktop theme? Have to send me a link for that!

With Windows 2000, yeah you had better have a firewall. It is vulnerable even with SP4 to things like windows server messaging hits right off the internet among other things. The last time I used a Win2k box for the fiance' it got infected and completely screwed up in less than a minute. Twice. That was when I bought the external router/firewall for it, and had Norton IS 2002 installed (since it was the only one that didn't overwhelm the system and it worked good)

As for the DVD ROM. Well I had it laying around, and it is an older drive so it may not fully support some of the newer things, I have no idea. It was a good spare, and it worked so I threw it in, but I didn't movie test it.

Great job Freezy

To play DVD and anything else try the SMPlayer. It comes with all the codecs you might need. And it won't take over the machine. You can configure it to works only when needed.
