I will be using my pc mostly for playing HD content, video conversions like mkv to vob etc for ps3. I do photoshop editing etc. Gaming not so much(some gaming like SF 4 etc) since I play on PS3. I am considering to spend about $200 for the CPU. I did quite a bit research and boiled down to 3 options so far. I want to get the most powerful CPU for $200 in Video editing and conversion plus multitasking.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHZ $195

Intel Core i5 750 2.66GHZ $199

Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHZ $189

I am leaning more towards AMD though since it has the highest GHZ speed and four cores. If someone can help me find a good combo deal for a great processor+mobo AND COMPATIBLE for the money i have i would be very appreciative. I currently have an AMD 64 X2 5200+ with 4gb ocz ddr2 on ecs 7050m motherboard with ati 3850 video card. The system is fast and im very pleased with it but it chokes up on some of my games, I feel that another 3850 in crossfirex might solve my probs but that requires a new mother board, video card and case. I am looking at barebones kits and wondering if I should get an AMD based system that support my current memory and cpu and buy another 3850 or just go ahead and get an intel based system with a single 4850 or gtx 260? I'm leaning hard towards the intel setup but if I do the fastest quad core in my budget would be the Q8400.

So my real question is should I get a faster dual core like the E8400 instead of the Q8400? Or will the Q8400 outperform the dual core? And i'm also wondering how much of an improvement either of them will be over my 5200+?

I was also looking at the shuttle sx38p2pro, it's a small footprint barebones kit that supports 775 cpus and crossfire. any opinions on these? Altho I'll prob go with a nice mid tower setup so I just need mobo/mem/cpu when I upgrade to I7.

Thanks for any advice.

How much does a cpu matter

Like gaming wise say you have these 2 setups

8800GT 4 gigs DDR3 ram AMD Athlon 2 X4 220 2.6ghz

And the same but with a i5, how much of a difference would u notice while gaming, watching videos etc..

I ask because im buying a new computer this christmas and i want to know if its worth the extra money or if i should save the money for speakers etc..

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition vs Core I5?

I've been making a build for a while now, and someone has told me that AMD's work better for 64 bit, and I also wanted to know if this processor would be a better deal than the I5?

Which CPU and motherboard should I get for ...

Hi! I have my old computer connect to my HDTV. The other day when I tried to watch "How I Met Your Mother" on 1080p from cbs.com, the CPU was crapping out. Usage was at 99%. That triggered me to build a new HTPC. My requirement is very simple. It sends video and audio signal via HDMI and capable to handle 1080p processing. I am trying to spend as little as possible for this. Can someone recomment a motherboard (w/ HDMI) and a CPU that can do the job?? Should I go with the a separate video card? Thank you very much in advance!

Im 15 and i have no job and the money i get is from Christmas and my birthday, which conveniently are days apart. Now right now my setup is (try not to laugh, im poor) a Dell Inspirion 4600 a 4 or 5 year old machine xD. I love this thing like a child, i dont want to get rid of it, actually i do i just dont have the money too. I was looking at building a new comp but the cheapest half a** semi gaming pc i could put all together was around $400 and that is not including hdd and optical drives. So without much detail i wanted to add this to my old grandpa pc.

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182074

Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231039

Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161284

Now my main problem, all this is not to bad and will extremely boost up my current system, however my cpu... is a pentium 4 prescott 2.8ghz single processor ....lol.... Now for the cheap like $230 do you think this will be enough to hold me about a year with games like: L4D SC2 COD4 and the new AVP. Im also at 1024x768 resolution, so that should also make it easier to run those games. So tell me what you think, and not just the answer save up for a better pc how do you think this will run, should i upgrade to a 3.0 prescott so i can get hyper threading etc. Thanks.

E7500 VT?

Quick question about Intels E7500 Core 2 Duo. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115056

The challenge is that thereis about two dozen Netvista M42 P4 machines with 160 watt proprietory power supplies that are an unusual size.

A larger power supply will not fit in the case.

These pcs are not gaming machines but used mainly for office applications, email and internet.

I would like to upgrade with low power cpus, motherboards, memory and utilize the IDE harddrives, power supplies, case and optical.

My gut feeling is that I should probably try and get 1 more year out of them and then replace with new pcs ...however maybe there is a way

to make a sensible upgrade...

Thanks

I'm not really set on a particular motherboard, the ones I've included below are current combos with the processors I'm interested in. I'm no expert but the AMD looks like its better than the Intel but like I said, I'm no expert and I'm not sure which processor would go best with my setup.

My primary concern with my new rig is gaming but I'd also be using it to do other, more basic things (surf the web, MS Office programs, etc.).

In the list I have the following two combos:

AMD

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103471 with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128394

and

Intel

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037 with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128359

I'm willing to reconsider either processor and I'm definitely willing to go with a different motherboard.

Also, I've never had an AMD before, I've always had Intel but since this is the first build I've done in awhile, I'm considering all options.

Thanks in advance!

Laptop Processor Upgrade

My current processor: http://www.machinaelectronics.com/store/buypart/HP_Pavilion_DV8000/TMDML34BKX5LD

Prospective upgrade: http://www.shopping.com/xPF-AMD-AMD-Athlon-64-Mobile-4000-62W-Socket-754-Processor

After looking at the two links, should I simply be able to swap one processor for another?

In addition, are there any special considerations I should know about before attempting to take apart my laptop, swap procs, and put it back together?

celeron dual core vs core 2 solo

which one is better?
