I bought the re-certified Netgear WGR614NAR router from newegg a while back and it has worked pretty good for the most part. I recently moved into a bigger house however, and now it doesn't work very well except in the room that it is in. I have it all the way on one end of the house because thats where the office is and my desktop computer needs to be plugged in directly. The farther we get from that end of the house the slower the internet gets and in the opposite end of the house it barely works at all. I would rather not move it to a more central location because I would like to keep my desktop plugged in directly. I was looking at the Netgear WPN824NAR RangeMax re-certified router because it is cheap enough for me to afford right now and it supposedly has better range. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with that router and if it really does increase wireless range or if it is just a sales gimmick. The other thing I was wondering is if either of these routers supported WDS (possibly with a firmware update?) that way I could set up another router in a more central location to extend the range. I would appreciate any other suggestions as well on this matter so I can get a decent connection throughout the house. Thanks in advance.
Share a non-wireless, non-workgroup printer?

Is there a way, or rather what's the best way, to share a non-wireless, non-workgroup (no ethernet) printer across a mixed XP/VISTA/OS X 10.5.X wireless G network.?
I am trying to plan out a network setup, that will let me use my primary work desktop in a separate network from a test network that will contain servers in a domain with test machines.

I’m in a dorm with one Ethernet jack that gets assigned 1 IP from the university. Right now I just have a basic consumer type dlink router connected to it, and then my primary desktop is connected to that, and a laptop is connected wirelessly.

I’m wondering if I got another router, and connected it’s wan port to a regular port on my main router, if that would let me create a 2nd separate network, that I could then create a actual domain with test servers, and a separate IP structure that would not conflict or even be able to directly access my primary desktop PC. This is graphically what I am thinking:

There's a huge range in price, from around $9 to $70. (which is odd when you think about it... I can't think of any ordinary home-user peripherals with prices that vary by a factor of almost 10!)

Also, is PCI better than USB?

I have a Netgear WG11v2 USB adapter, which has 802.11g and is about 3 years old. I think. With the Netgear, the connection speed on my desktop is definitely slower than my roommates older, less powerful laptop.

Also it can lose the connection every two or three minutes, for hours at a stretch - and then it might stay connected for hours with no problem.

I'm guessing the easiest solution would be to try a new adapter, mostly because I can't imagine there's anything that can be done to the computer if the dropped connections are so inconsistent.
Help connecting Satellite box to wireless network

I have an existing wireless network. I would like to connect my “nonwireless” satellite receiver to my wireless network. Could someone tell what hardware I would need to accomplish this? Could someone recommend a good choice?

teacher said that if you go router to router, switch to switch, pc to
pc etc with an ethernet cable that it needs to be a crossover rather
then a straight cable.

So right now my pc is in my room and
the router is clear on the other side of the house, I have a 100 foot
straight ethernet cable going from the router under the house and up to
my computer.

I will be buying a netbook pretty soon so I can
take notes in class and just have access to a computer when I don't
want to be sitting in my room. The router downstairs is a Linksys
wrt54g and the signal upstairs is pretty weak and I'm wanting something
stronger.

I was thinking about getting another router (and if I
do get another one will it need to be the same one? linksys wrt54g) and
putting it in my room for a stronger connection. Since I found out that
if you do do router to router you need a crossover ethernet does that
mean it would not work if I did that since it is a straight ethernet
cable? If I need to I can borrow some RJ-45 crimpers from my teacher
and make it a crossover but is that really necessary? Or will it just
work as it is? Thanks a bunch

I want to join the wireless world/need information

I bought this laptop: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220566 yesterday for school and gaming and am waiting for it to arrive. My home uses a satellite connection for its broadband and I have my wife's' computer and mine hooked to a 4 port switch with the satellite modem taking up a third slot. I would like to know what I need to do to use my satellites wireless capability in my home? What equipment do I need and what would be best? I am a fairly knowledgeable home user but have no experience with wireless and this is in fact my first new computer in 5 years. I will be putting windows 7 pro (64bit) on this laptop while my wife and I will continue to use XP pro on the desktops. Will this be an issue? I couldn't resist this laptop at $100 off and free shipping it is amazing and I want to get the most out of it. Any information would be of great help.
Decent Router with good firewall for home?

I have a Linksys WRT54G (running Linksys firmware). I like it. It is very good as a general firewall (it will allow/disallow whole types of traffic)..but I would like a firewall that enables me to:

Filter specific IP address ranges

Save or import/export those rules in an easily editable format

Keep traffic log (at least a minimal amount so I can tell what's going on)...again exportable or editable easily

The Linksys lets you enter a URL to block..but haven't found that to work very well...probably just me. I've looked at newer Linksys models...and their firewall capabilities appear to be the same.

I'd like the external router to do the work ...rather than a software based firewall on my PC.

Any suggestions...or did I inhale ?

Is the cloud a better place for our data?

Data is king. However, it has been a couple years since I used it and it seems that the power cable has gotten lost in the shuffle between my last few places. I originally bought this router for about $25 and now it costs $50. Don't want to buy a new one when this one works fine. Anyone know where I can find cables for this model? That is until it came down to getting onto the internet. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas where I could find a driver for a linksys wireless usb adapter WUSB54GC that is compatible with my 64 bit Windows 7 package. If not, I guess I'll have to buy a new router, but I was hoping that somebody on here had run into this problem.

I have already downloaded all of the driver updates from microsoft and I'm not sure where to head from here. Help please! I have my computer set up on the coffee table in my living room because the internet hook up is completely inacessable. Hence my need for a wireless set up.

wireless repeater setup

I am using a Zonet ZSR4154WE wireless N router to use as a repeater for a Westell A90-327W60-06 wireless G router. Although I followed the instructions to set up the Zonet router for WDS in repeater mode, it seems like it isn't connecting to the Westell router.

Is it possible that the 2 routers are talking and there is something else preventing me from getting on the internet? Is there a way to check this?

Also, the Zonet "manual" says some cryptic statement that sounds like both routers have to support WDS. What does this mean? How can I check that out?

Thanks.

Need Help in choosing a router!! please!

ok currently i have a motorolla surfboard, the one with the antenna. its fast and reliable, well was. i've had it for sometime now and i believe its finally reaching its end. im looking for a router that wireless, and has a cable modem built in, much like my current router. i'm looking for one that fast, stable, and good for gaming aswell as wifi access. i got my current one through reconmendation of a friend a few years back. can anyone please help offer/give advice on a good cable modem/wifi router? thanks in advance.
