Verizon Warns about getting a cell through Newegg

So today I decided to give Verizon a call about purchasing a cell with a plan from Newegg. They highly advise AGAINST purchasing it from the site. They said it would be a huge issue if something ever happened to the phone, and that they would only deal with changes to the plan.

I understand the part about them only dealing with the plan, but is it unsafe to purchase my phone from Newegg? Would I be better off getting it from a local Verizon store??

Nokia Initiates Charger Exchange Program

Dear Nokia Customer,

Nokia has announced an exchange program for a limited number of Nokia-branded chargers manufactured by a third party supplier. We have determined that the plastic covers of the affected chargers could come loose and separate, exposing the charger’s internal components and potentially posing an electric shock hazard if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket.
While we are not aware of any incidents or injuries related to the affected chargers, as a precautionary measure, we will exchange affected charger models free-of-charge.
The affected chargers are those manufactured by BYD between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009 and with the following model types
AC -3U
AC-3E
and those manufactured by BYD between April 13, 2009 and October 25, 2009 and with the following model type
AC-4U

Affected chargers may have been sold with a Nokia device or purchased separately as an accessory.Your charger is not impacted by this action if you purchased it before June 15, 2009 for models AC-3U and AC-3E and before April 13, 2009 for model AC-4U or it is a similar charger model manufactured by any other supplier.
The reliability and quality of our products, is Nokia’s top priority. If you have confirmed that your charger is eligible to be replaced, we advise that you stop using it, and seek a free replacement charger.
An exchange program has been arranged for all markets in which affected chargers have been sold. To minimize inconvenience to our customers, the exchange will take place at the country level.
Submit specific information from the charger label using the menu below to determine if it is within the scope of the exchange program.
The affected chargers are those manufactured by BYD between June 15, 2009 and August 9, 2009 and with the following model types
AC -3U

Magic Jack Discussion

Thought I would start a thread on MagicJack. I recently switched over. Pretty happy. The FAQs on their web site are fairly complete and good. Curious to see what other users think.

Right now my only squawk is that I've noticed that while incoming voice quality is quite good (IMO) the outgoing quality is "not so much"....I heard some clicking and digitization effects (momentary/syllable drop out). The clicking bothers me the most. I'm using the same cordless (Panasonic KX-TG5432 .. a 5.8 GHz digital).

My DSL download speed is 2.6 Mbps and my upload is 0.43 Mbps.

Well...here goes. Maybe this will be a place to spread the wealth of information and insights.

Tilt2/TouchPro2 Bluetooth Peripheral Device Driver

I got AT&T's Tilt 2 (HTC) (I THINK it's same as Touch Pro 2??) through AT&T's business line a lil earlier, but when I try to send something to the phone from my Windows 7 RC x64 computer, I cannot send anything. I get the message, not all types of files can be sent or something like that, even when I try to send small picture.

I have no problem sending from my phone to the computer.

Any clue why? I'm so cluelss about this suject.

Also, on my computer, a driver for the bluetooth peripheral device driver is not installed. Well, I see a triangle next to the phone when I go to Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers. My old first Tilt doesn't have the same triangle. Who should I contact about this? lol What should I do?

Our friend Drita at Engadget Spanish was lucky enough to spend some extended moments with HTC's just announced HD2 -- also known as the Leo. It's got exactly the same specs we just heard about: a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive display, a 1GHz MSM8250 Snapdragon processor, integrated FM radio, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. They found this Windows Mobile 6.5 baby to be elegant and light feeling in the hand, the touchscreen to be responsive and quick, and HTC's Sense UI beautiful. The phone's also quite snappy, and we have to say we can't wait to get our hands on one ourselves. As far as availability goes -- well, we know it's going to run €649 it will and be available in November on Vodaphone in Spain (we've also heard it's headed to T-Mobile UK), with additional carriers following after December. Snap, looks like that painful feeling in our gut was just from that late-night Mickey's sesh after all. HTC's Peter Chou told SlashGear today that the monstrous, amazing HTC HD2 will be coming to the United States of America sometime in Q1 of 2010. That's not too far off, but let's be honest -- it's gonna be a long wait.

T-Mobile was the first to support the Google Android platform and we currently have two choices at T-Mobile with a fourth coming soon. Here are the known choices on T-Mobile:

T-Mobile G1
T-Mobile myTouch 3G
Motorola CLIQ
Samsung Behold II
T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Edition

The second carrier to have a Google Android available is Sprint and they came out swinging with the HTC Hero.

Google and Verizon announced a partnership last week that will see Google Android devices launched in 2010.

AT&T is the home of the iPhone and there has not yet been any announcements of a Google Android device being launched with them so there is no choice here when it comes to Android devices.

Upgrade ROM advise for HTC touch pro

Hey guys, im noob for windows mobile >.> ( admitted since only use for 2 weeks ) so here is my question

I got a Sprint HTC touch pro ( yea, i like touch pro than touch pro 2 in style ) and it has 1.03 ROM on it. Since I tried to update ROM to version 2 alot of time on multiple computer, the result all of them give me error that when i look up it's something about connection. So yea, i wonder if it worth it to upgrade to vesrion 2, and if so, I found a alternative method and would like you guys think about it before I get to the wrong way.

iPhone texting question

Hey everyone.

I'm pretty sure I sound like a complete i***t asking this, but....

I have an iPhone 3G. During the day I text a fair amount with other people and the conversations all stay on the phone. However, the next day, all the conversations have disappeared when I open up the messaging app. Is there a way to keep the iPhone from deleting the conversations on a daily basis? Or at least a way to recover them the next day?

The reason this is a big deal is that often I carry on a multiday conversation and its rather frustrating to not have any messages to look over and see what we've talked about previously.

iPhone and AT&T question

So heres the deal. I just got an iPhone 3G a couple weeks ago and signed a new two-year service agreement since my old contract came up in July. I know many people don't like AT&T's service but here in Oklahoma its pretty damn good. Better than the other options at least.

I love the phone thus far. I've got it jailbroken and as far as everything else goes I've really got no complaints. However I do have a question and I have a feeling I'll just have to give AT&T a call in the morning to do some checking. I've been thinking about taking back my 3G and paying the difference for the 3GS. It does offer a few things I might use once in a blue moon, plus the faster processor can't hurt at all.

My question is does anyone know if I can do this. I know they have a 30 day satisfaction whatnot policy and a 10% restocking fee for iPhones. 3G was $100 so if its another $100 plus the $10 restocking fee its not a big deal. Would I be able to do this without having to redo the contract or can anyone give me any insight? A faster processor would be nice for backgrounding.

AT&T complains about Google Voice to FCC

According to AT&T, Google isn’t playing by the rules with Google Voice — they are rejecting outbound calls to some rural areas to reduce their access expenses. Google says that these numbers are typically used for things like sex chat lines.

Why would it be against the rules if Google decides to block numbers like this?

haha... This battle between Google, AT&T and Apple (over the Google Voice app) is definitely heating up, and will be fun to watch.

Unlocked LG Neon

We have an employee who needs a new phone. We are currently under contract with AT&T. This employee wants an LG Neon. (Personally if they were my decisions I would not have chosen this carrier or phone, but I don't make the decisions I just get stuff done). Anyways since we are already locked into a contract the price that AT&T is asking for the neon is unreasonably high. I have found unlocked neon's all over the internet (Newegg, Amazon, Overstock, etc.) but they are "sold-out" or "currently unavailable" at every retailer (except ebay). Why is this? Is it really in that high of demand or is there some other reason I can't find one?

Can anyone provide any insight as to when this might be available? Or why it's not available now?

Have any smartphone truly catched your eyes in the past two years? If not, this one probably will. xpPhone, a device that was oh so briefly demoed at Computex. ITG's smartphone looks like a lot of work. Far from your average Windows phone, it has a QWERTY keyboard and then some. ( see detailed info here)

Cell phones Caller ID is pretty much free. Is it possible to use some kind of hack to get free caller ID or somehow get a free caller ID for my land line phone?

Newegg is listing a RAZR v3xx that includes the GSM 850/1800/1900 MHz bands. I need it to replace a lost phone that is on an AT&T service plan. The presence of GSM 85 & 1900 bands should mean it will work with AT&T, right? Or is there more to compatibility than simply getting the correct bands? (Or do I truly need a quadband to use AT&T?)

Concept Window Phone

Only a concept, the Window Phone is not really a Window's Mobile phone...yet. This unique looking device looks like glass and changes appearances to what the weather is like outside.

The concept phone is transparent plastic as you can see and will appear clear on a pretty sunny day, humid during the rainy days and dump during winter days. One of the features is that the user can write a SMS message and draw pictures on the window. Of course, there is not telling when or if we will see this phone, but I'm sure it won't be anytime soon.
