    How old are we?

I'm freakin old. (30.5)   I've always wondered what the average age of most gamers are out there.  Is gaming something that's mostly stuck with my generation or am I just old and immature?

Its not immature at all.  Its our generation.  I got my mother playing Dead or Alive on my xbox and she loves it (btw she is over 40).  Gaming is just like an escape capsule type of thing.  it gets us out of the big world and into a smaller world where we can forgot about stuff.  I just turned 20 and I still play games like CS, CS:S and my PS2 and my xbox. I imagine I will be for year to come too.  Its great stress relief.

    Re: How old are we?

I sometimes wondered this myself. I am 27.

If it's there and you can see it — it's real.
If it's not there and you can see it — it's virtual.
If it's there and you can't see it — it's transparent.
If it's not there and you can't see it — you erased it !

    1 + 1 = 10

22.7 here!!! But I love to laugh at some parents trying to play on the wii and other things that are interesting enough to grab their attention.

As far as being too old for games and electronics; Is such a thing possible?!?  I highly doubt it.

I don't have kids yet, but my wife and I want to plan in the next year or so. I want them to come first, but I'm afraid that I have an addiction and I would have an internal struggle with this. I don't forsee me not playing games, ever. I'll play until I can't physically play anymore.

Anyone able to balance gaming and family well?

    Re: How old are we?

23, not that big on gaming but still play now and than... There is nothing wrong with playing games its all about your mental health. If you get obsesed with the game and decide to do Need For Speed or something like that on your street than yeah you might have a bit of a problem. Other than that you are just FINE!....

I have similar feelings.  My wife wants kids.  I don't because I'd rather have time to game.  When the time comes and she gets pregnant I'll just stop gaming altogether.

    Re: How old are we?

I just had a kid last year and it does definitely make a difference.  I just play mostly when the baby is asleep or just out with mom.  I can't wait till he's old enough to play.  Not all the time of course Smile

But I agree.  I'll probably have a computer of my own in my rest home. Smile

    Re: How old are we?

I just turned 28, and I feel young compared to most of the gamers I know.      I think these lawmakers who keep pushing the bills on game ratings would be surprised if they finally woke up and realized the majority of gamers are not little kids.

In response to Jukebox360's post: Kids add joy to your life, they don't take it away :)    Just a little less play time, but it's worth it!

As for me, I'll be gaming until the day I die, and eagerly look forward to retirement so I can have more gametime.

    Re: How old are we?

I'm 29, I'm a gamer, my wife is a gamer, we have 2 kids, they are gamers too....  Nothing wrong with gaming when you're older, gaming doesn't mean you're immature.  I play online with kids as young as 11 and ppl as old as 74, i don't think age has anything to do with it.  Most of the new games that are coming out are geared toward the older generation, there are a lot of M rated games out there.  But I like all types of games, I play everything from Mario Kart to Everquest 2.  I can tell you that EQ2 is populated more by people in their 30s than people in their teens.

    37

The first time I played a MP game was Doom via modem to modem connection in '94.

I still play games today, but reaction times (reflexes) slow with age so I went from being one fo the best Quake II players in the world to "some guy that always dies quickly" in todays first person shooters. :)

I am 37 - and a pretty serious gamer.  Though, I do go through phases.  I may not play a single game for several months, but sometimes I will have a week long marathon, should time allow for it.

    Re: How old are we?

Your not "old" your just not a kid anymore. But like me, I'm 47, you take your entertainment very serious. Gaming is not just an idle past-time. It keeps our minds sharp and keeps our fingers nimble. Games can keep us connected to an outside world that those who simply watch a "boob tube" miss out on. Age is not an important factor but a youthful spirit is. It takes all of us to push the industry forward, Young and Old.

    Re: How old are we?

I'm a 22 year old grad student.  I'm actually quite surprised that I'm one of the younger people responding to this message, expected a bunch of considerably younger people on here.  I will say that's a pleasant surprise, a more mature audience on a forum would be a much needed improvement to most of the junk out there.  I guess only people with jobs can afford all the fancy gizmos on Newegg ;)
