RuM:19, I'm surprised to see most members are quite older than me. I've been a gamer since the release of Doom II, and played Counter-Strike from it's 6th or 7th Beta release when I was 12, till Source came when I was 18. Right now CS:S is getting way to monotonous and beating Half-Life 2 and Far Cry for the 342th time doesn't seem to appealing anymore :-P.
I'm 25. Growing up, I always eagerly jumped at any opportunity to play on friends' consoles, but never owned one myself because the parents were against them. I think the first game I played was centipede on my neighbor's atari. Does anyone remember that one? Then we had a few outdated family PCs that my brothers and I would desparately scour games for, but nothing up to date or ground breaking for the time... We played Lemmings, Wolfenstein 3D, Links golf, Prince of Persia---Ohhh and the Qbasic games like Gorilla and Nibbles. 007 Goldeneye certainly caught my attention, but then I tapered off for a few years until finally, I obtained a fairly up-to-date Dell Dimension 8300 (P4 3.0ghz w/Nvidia 5200 gfx card) for school--and my roommates put the original Half Life and Counter-Strike games on there and I regained some interest again.
But it wasn't until a few months later, in late 2004, when Half-Life 2 came out that I became truly converted (and admittedly addicted). I love that game and all of it's subsequent releases. I can't wait for HL2: Episode 2 to come out, as well as Portal and Team Fortress 2. Since then I've slowly been infected with the upgrade bug, more and more. It's so fun! I'd say a fair 20-30% of my meager college student income goes to upgrading my computer to play better games. Ha! I hardly even use my computer for school anymore... I'm really just a noob, but I like to think that I fit in, even with my aging system. I no longer take much interest in consoles, however, and spend most of my time on newegg, just thinking about my next upgrade... Latest developments--> Day of Defeat: Source and LAN parties. This past year I've definitely risen to a whole new level of l33t nerdness. Last week we fit roughly 16 guys into my small apt. for a DODs LAN party. It's a great time. Now my roommate and I are sort of starting a clan--I used to make fun of clans...
Oh well.
RuM, maybe have you tried DODs yet? It's worth a try--and changes from the CS:S pace a lot, imho.
