It is expensive and not too easy. Buying the CD's was the worst part
imo. This is how I am able to run it well and be safe
-886k upload on my DSL connection.
-I
am streaming to a free icecast2 server thanks to Radio Free Tribeca and
one of my friends offered to host it on his FIOS connection and he gets
about 5mb upload. I was able to set up a 20 slot server.
Certainly I can run a AAC 64k server on my home connection, but then
things get really tight and the most listeners I would see is 7.
Having 2 128k streams is pretty lucky.
-I have an old AMD 2400+
running at 2GHz and has 1GB of ram and its running the station
24/7. Last time it was restarted was 15 days ago so even running
windows, its pretty stable. The idea to running a computer
nonstop is, no other apps. Just needed stuff, only put what
PCI/AGP cards needed into it, put in quiet fans, low wattage power
supply, don't use the computer for anything else but the broadcast
software and a nice size hard drive thats not too loud.
-Affordable
webhosting is a must. If you noticed...the site is on a subdomain
from my website and that subdomain then links to a free hosting plan I
like to donate to as much as I can to show my thanks.
-GC/OC has helped out so much. They are another reason why things are going well.
-Licences are taken care of.
What is different about
Japan-A-Radio is that they are thorugh Live365 which they pay for
everything on a monthly basis and they have so much. They are
great and I must say I was inspired by them a bit, but when I started
out 2 years ago, live365 wasway to expensive so I hosted it here on my
home connection. Certainly we are asking for Donations, but they
are not needed too badly yet. I put up a Music OnDemand system on the
main site, one is free and there is a premium one which is enabled only
for people who donate a certain amount. It could help out a bit.
That is how I am able to run it.
