Re: *Sticky* What is in your Rig?

This was my first build!  Will update and add pics ASAP.  I had a cheap HP at first.  Some of the parts/components from it were included in this build.  Daddy ain't made of $$$ you know!

    Processor - AMD Phenom II X 4 955 B.E. 3.2 GHz

    Memory - G Skill Ripjaws Series 4 GB (2X 2GB) 240 pin DDR3 1600

Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 7200 RPM

Video Card - EVGA 9600 GT

    Motherboard - ASUS M4A79XTD EVO  AMD3

    Sound Card - Auzentech Prelude X-Fi 7.1

Power Supply - Antec TruePower New TP-750

    Speakers - Logitech Z-2300 2.1

    Operating System - Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Fans - Stock CPU heatsink and fan plus below

Case - Antec 902 w/ optional side fan installed

Keyboard - HP multi media keyboard

    Mouse - Logitech MX-518

    Monitor - HP w1907

Mics - Netgear PCI Wireless adapter, 8 GB Patriot Flash Drive and 4 GB Kingston Flash Card for Ready Boost

I just built it a day ago so I have not had the chance to test things out yet.  A good CPU cooler is my next purchase along with 4 more GBs of RAM.  My GPU was from my last PC.  I will upgrade as soon as Nvidia gets their sh** together.

    MSI X58 Platinum SLI / OCZ Reaper HPC 6GB DDR3-1800 @ 7-7-7-16 w/ OCZ XTC Cooler Rev2 / XFX GTX 275 OC
    160GB VelociRaptor(OS) / 2TB Storage / Samsung 22X & 20x SATA DVD Burner with LS
    Hanns·G 24" 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor / Logitech Wireless Slim Desktop S 510
    Windows 7 Professional x64 / Ubuntu 9.10 x64

I've had most of this setup for a while.  Recently got Windows 7, 1080P monitor, windowed side panel, Cooler Master PSU, GTX 275 and OCZ CPU cooler.  This is more of an update.  Don't really see myself going away from this setup for a long while.  Maybe another GPU when the new Nvidia stuff comes out.  My IOH on this board went up like 15c(to 70c+ idle) for no reason at all.  So I took the copper heatsink off, cleaned the surfaces with an arctic silver cleaning kit, and applied fresh Rosewill RCX-TC060.  Dropped the IOH down to the low 50s idle.  Anyway, here are some updated pics.

Update:  I ditched the Coolmax PSU for a Cooler Master Silent Pro.  Fan started clickity clacking on start up, figured the fan had bad bearings or something to that effect.

Update 2: Wife got me a Corsair H50 and OCZ XTC Cooler Rev2 for Christmas via a Newegg gift card.  She's the best.

I'll probably make a thread in the modding forum with a bunch of pics when I'm done with the build.

I just realized you said Christmas present for your Mom.  That's awesome.  I'm building mine a new lanbox this evening.  Her P4 is going to be retired for an AMD Athlon II x4 620, 4GB of DDR3-1600, MSI mobo, and a new PSU.  She's going to be set for another 3 years.

    Merry Christmas all.  Party!!!

Re: *Sticky* What is in your Rig?

Yeah, I know 62 year-old grandmas aren't supposed to be doing this stuff..  Did my first build last March.  Nothing fancy, but my grandson and I are having a ball playing Crysis, Left 4 Dead and his old Counter Strike Condition Zero on it.

    Antec 900 Case

Intel Core Two Duo, Wolfdale E-8400, 3.0 Ghtz

500 GB WD hard drives (3, one with 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, two unused)  RAID 0,5,10, no RAID???  Haven't decided yet.

160 GB drive from my old computer (XP Home)

    Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R MB

    4 GB Corsair DDR2 RAM

    Antec Neopower 650 Blue PS

Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 video card, 896 MB

    Creative SB X-Fi sound card

This fall I tore apart my old XP computer, and rebuilt it in an inexpensive NZXT case.  I upgraded Mom's (Mom is 86) 40 GB hard drive with 98SE on it to XP Home, popped it in the rebuilt computer in a new case and finally convinced her to get rid of dial-up and go with DSL.  Mom says every day is her birthday now.  Life is good.

Keyboard monitor mouse and speakers dont know just old ones i had stuffed in a closet they work thats bout all i can say about that.

Knowing what i know now and useing this system this mobo is horrid i dont like it one bit i cant do much with it at all. I used onboard graphics for a long time they were decent for what i was doing. As this was built for my sister who surfs the net and does school work nothing major. But started useing it as gaming and added the video card about a month ago to get me by until i build my new system. the mobo was 20 cheaper when i bought it. Mind you i built this thing almost a year ago. it works great runs fast stock cooler never needed more really. So again aside from this mobo i love this rig it does everything i ask and then some. Not even OC'd at all runs 3.1ghz i love it.
