Hi Sidicas,
About that cargo ship :>) Japan is approx. 2 weeks from Long Beach via a fast container ship, China may add a few days to that. Navy Destroyers ? it's a Month, playing war games enroute.
When I worked at United Airlines the old timers would tell stories about some of the first DC-6,, DC-7 and DC-8 Freighters, they told the story about when Hula Hoops were a very hot item in the 60's and the marketeers fugured it was a passing fad that would fade very quickly, the hoola hoops were manufactured in Japan, so, to strike while the item was still hot they would air freight them from Japan to San Francisco, United loved it !!
The above doesn't connect with this point verywell , however many light , high value items are air freighted to meet demand when there is a " shortage " if the items are available at point of origin of course. Also tying up high value items for 10 days to 2 weeks aboard a cargo ship sometimes doesn't make sense.
I wouldn't bet against some of these high value computer parts being air freighted in .
