Have you ever put one next to a Samsung or LG to compare the color quality? I have, and for that reason I wouldn't recommend one even if you had to shell out $50 more for a better panel. They're only the best bang for the buck if all you're looking for is price per square inch of screen.
Keep in mind that computers become obsolete, but a good monitor will last you a very long time. I still have the 20" 1600x1200 LCD I bought 4.5 years ago when I built my last computer.
If there's one thing that's worth investing a little more money in, its a good monitor.
