Is is time for me to upgrade to DDR3?

My office machine has a dual core 6600 CPU and showed some DDR2 (2X2GB) at 5.9 in Vista performance rating vs. my home machine with a Quad core 6600 CPU that does more than the office one, which was running DDR2 (4X1GB) at 5.6 in Vista.  Putting the DDR2 (2X2GB) in the home machine MB (an ASUS PK5C), makes Vista show it at 5.6 instead of 5.9.

The ASUS PK5C MB has two DDR3 slots and is about 9 months old.  Is it time for me to upgrade it to DDR3 and see if Vista will rate that @ 5.9.  The Quad core machine shows 5.9 at all else (CPU, graphics, HDD) but memory is a 5.6 and I would like it all to match.  I suspect the DDR3 upgrade to make it match.

And, which DDR3 is the best for this?  Thanks.

Seems like you are spending money just to see a number. If seeing 5.9 on the screen is important to you, then it is worth the upgrade. However, the number you are getting is very respectable at this time. In your list of system purposes, I don’t see any reason to jump to DD3 now. It’s very spendy and brings little benefit.

You can edit the resulting xml file to make you memory state 5.9 if you like.

What DDR2 are you running and at what timings? The last three rigs I built had DDR2 800 4-4-4-12 memory and they all scored 5.9, heck my ddr 400 2.5-2-2-3 scored a 5.6 you must have something set wrong.

I'd look into settings or better DDR2 ram.

all the points make sense. if you have money, go with DDR3 and make your  score  5.9. but i don't think there will be much improvement. with decent DDR2 memory, you can also make it run fast even faster.for ddr3  it is still a long way to go. but someday it will replace ddr2. moreover, ill take the vista rating system with a grain of salt. that score does not mean much to me.

Answering some here, the DDR2 I have is PC6400 running at 800, but I don't know its latency value or how to find that out now.  I don't want the DDR3 just for the 5.9 number, but more to see what benefits I get when its there.  Running Acrobat Pro and paging through a 132 page color document - let's just say that could use improvement.  I believe that alone would benefit from great high speed memory.

The technology of DDR2 is quite mature now, so you can also get the same DDR3 effect

    with less money.

DDR3 has not been popularization so far; however, if you have enough budgets, you can

have a try. After all, with new technology, it might have better performance.

Re: Is is time for me to upgrade to DDR3?

To me, a justification of a DDR3 upgrade would have to be a SIGNIFICANT performance boost.

Current gen CPU's and mobos don't seem to have it, next gen (Nehalems) might.
