Hello all, first post here. I have a Sound Blaster Audigy, and I've been having a lot of problems with it, as of late. In detail, most of the time (note the word 'most') the sound doesn't work. I'm rather sure that it's trying to screw with me, because somedays sound streaming from the internet (like a YouTube video, etc) will work, but sounds from the hard drive (like from Limewire) do not. Most of the time, neither works. This has been even more upsetting, because it means that I can't game on a regular basis, because I have to worry about whether my sound card will cooperate today. I can't get the latest drivers for the card; an error message will pop up, stating that Windows doesn't detect a Sound Blaster Audigy. My last card, a Sound Blaster Live! 24-Bit card had the same issues. I bought this Audigy in hopes that it would rectify the problem, but no luck. It can't be a conflict issue, because my old card worked for a very long time before having this problem. My new card does the same thing, now. Any help?

In device manager does it show a yellow triangle with a ! point next to your sound card?

Did you uninstall the old drivers from the old card before installing the new card?

Uninstall the drivers and apps thru add and remove programs. (Creative)

Install the drivers off the CD that came with your card.

Make sure that your chipset drivers are also up to date.

Move the PCI card to a different PCI slot.

I would google and download Driver Cleaner PRO and clean out the drivers for the sound card, (new and old) go to the website and download the newest drivers for it, and try again.

Ok, a little update here. I have finally received the RMA board from ASUS, so I suppose I will have to update my specs.

Processor - Q6600 (oc)

Motherboard - ASUS Striker Extreme 680i

Soundcard - Supreme FX (bundled with the motherboard)

Graphics Card - EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX

I am still having the same problems, it looks like. Yesterday (when I had put all the brand new goodies into the system) everything worked fine, and I pumped my fists in victory; thinking I had won. Today I started up Doom 3, anxious to finally be able to piss myself at full settings, (guess it) the sound doesn't work. I can't get the drivers on the disk supplied with the motherboard, because the motherboard (being new, and whatnot) only has one IDE controller, but both my hard drives and CD drives work on IDE. So I don't have any CD drives. I've been searching the internet for drivers for the card, with absolutely no luck whatsoever. Not even ASUS's site has them on there, that's where I got all the drivers for the rest of the motherboard. I took GMSCool's advice and got rid of all the sound drivers I could find with the program he suggested. All of the old stuff is gone, now. I'm not too sure of what else to do. There's no way I'm taking it to GeekSquad or anything of the sort. That's like a mortal sin for us computer geeks.

The physical design of this slot is similar to PCI Express x1 but turned by 180 degrees, however there is no electrical compatibility with the PCI Express x1. The thing is that Supreme-FX is actually not a fully-fledged sound card, but simply an analogue part of the sound tract connected to the AC97 interface. That is why you can only see a one microchip on the Supreme-FX card: the high-definition 8-channel Analog Devices AD1988B codec.

I had already tried audio drivers from the site, it hadn't worked. Then I got a flash of (semi) brilliance, and stuck the driver CD in my dads computer, then copied all the data from it to a flash drive. Stuck the flash drive in and used the audio drivers from there. Suddenly, everything worked! I was really pumped. But, what it seems to be now, is that sometimes the audio seems very garbled and unpredictable. For example, the sound level will rise and fall slightly, and the audio will come in and out of focus. Another thing to note is that, no matter what, the singer's voice will be almost inaudible. If you have any suggestions, I'd love them. You've both been such a help. I've been trying to Google my problem, without too much result.

Ok, a little edit, here. I'm not nearly an expert, but I do know a few things about audio equipment. First, I'd like to add some more information. Transients (quick sounds drawing a lot of amp energy, best example is bass thumps and drums hits) are cut down a lot, and clip heavily if the sound's volume is up high. I tried plugging my headphones into my 5.1 set's jack, which resulted in the same problems. This means that even with a lower signal (so less amplification) there was still distortion. Then I tried the headphone jack on the case, with no change; meaning that the line-in signal isn't distorted by the 5.1's amp. Any ideas?
