    Install XP SP3 without SP2?

I need to install Windows on my Macbook Pro for use with Office 2007 and several other business-related software programs.   This is only for work/school purposes so no gaming.  I'm thinking of going with XP Professional rather than Vista to conserve hard drive space (have to partition HD with Boot Camp).  Can I do a clean install of SP3 or do I have to install SP2 and then upgrade to the new service pack?  I don't own either OS at the moment so will be buying full version from Newegg:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116515

     Thanks,

    J

The SP3 CD will have everything you need.

Just FYI, that version of Windows is OEM. Meaning, technically you're only allowed to install it on one computer and keep it on that computer forever. So if anything goes wrong and you can't fix it, you're SOL.

The alternative is Retail version, which will allow you to move the license from one computer to another.

IMO Right now I would not install with SP3, due to SP3 still having issues, Microsoft is still trying to work them out right now.

It includes all previously released updates for the operating system, which means it should include both sp2 and sp3. And you just need install your os from it. However, I also won’t support SP3 very much, as the main Disadvantage is that if everything is currently working well you run the risk of introducing problems to a  Network that may be costly and completely unnecessary.
