    2.1V RAM on a default 1.8V motherboard

I'm sure the answer is on these forums somewhere but I haven't had any luck finding it. I'm just getting into PC building and don't know much about overclocking and changing voltages, etc.

    I have this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128078

I'm looking at this RAM:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227267

The Gigabyte website says that motherboard is compatible with 1.8V RAM, but in the customer reviews people mention using 2.1V. So how does that work... do I just go into the BIOS and there's a setting to change it to 2.1V, or is it more complicated than that?

If there are multiple things I would have to change or if it would affect other items besides the RAM too, I might be better off waiting for a deal on 1.8V RAM...

Usually, you can just go and change it to correct voltages, and latencies, I think you will also want to set the main board to use it as SLI ready memory (or whatever there BIOS calls it).

Most ram, even faster ram will default to 1.8v and DDR@ 800 untill you change the speeds and voltages. Best way to make sure is to write  OCZ and ask if they know if it will work on that main board.

Assuming the ram does work with your motherboard, don't forget the super secret Ctrl-F1. Use this key combo at the main page in the BIOS to set voltages. Otherwise, the option isn't available on Gigabyte boards. Trying to protect people from themselves I guess.

In most conditions, it is not necessary to over adjust the voltage of the memory, as the

motherboard can automatically distinguish it; unless you want to adjust the voltage to

enhance the system stability when over clocking. To be on the safe side, you can make

configurations in BIOS to set into the mode supported by RAM.
