    Fujitsu Lcd prob - Help!!

last night I was using my roomie's laptop, the screen went fuzzy and then black. But the system was still running, just the screen was fuzzy.
We went to "computer support" for help, and they told us that the backlight has burnt out. And to fix it will cost about $900. I am just wondering if any eggxpert knows if the backlight in the laptop can be replaced by someone who's far from a computer expert (i.e. me&my roomie). and maybe if someone knows of a good, detailed tutorial?
We did read about the mercury and everything, I know that, but 900 dollars (not even including tax)?! If I'm unable to repair the screen myself or find some place that can repair it for a reasonable price, I was wondering if it's possible to hook the laptop to a monitor and just do that from now on? I know that you can normally, but since the laptop screen isn't working, will what I see on the external monitor be normal (i.e. not black and dim)?
    Thx very much in advance.
BTW its a Fujitsu Lifebook S6210

That is the problem, the backlight blew.  You could always attempt to replace the entire LCD screen.  Look on ebay, for laptops of this model that aren't working, but are to be used as spare parts, with working LCDs, or simply look for the LCDs.  You should be able to find something of either of those, and replacing laptop LCDs is relatively simple.

    Hope this helps. :)

thx so much for ur help

true its hard to get an exactly same one, which could happen to be cheap as well. I guess I should probably go with the external monitor?

If you don't plan on taking it anywhere, an external monitor is fine.  And if you don't care what it is, you can usually find working CRT monitors for $20 if you have any Goodwills or Flea Markets around.

If you have enough budgets and for the stable of your laptop, you should contact with manufacturer to purchase a LCD screen. And they can also supply the service on changing screen which can avoid the damage by unprofessional operating. Have a good luck.Smile
