    Hey There

    Hey Eggxpert Community!

As you probably figured out, I'm Speeder. I'm also what you would call a noob when it comes to computers. Ah well, I'll eventually learn.

Anyways...my computer sucks, but I'm fortunately going to build my first one really soon. Anything will be better than what I currently have. Just look at my system specs (subject to change at any time) to see how bad my rig is.

So, nice to meet you all!

    Re: Hey There

im currently sitting at an old compaq, running an AMD athlon XP 2200+. i feel your pain, loading a website causes my music to stutter.

anyways, welcome to the forum! there are many people here that would be more than helpful to help you get your next rig together. you can post up in the system builds section with your budget and what you need out of it.

    Re: Hey There

i saw that you were wondering what CPU to get, i recommend this from guessing your budget. but the E8400 is also amazing and can also be overclocked really high.

    Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80571E7200 - Retail

also i dont think you will ever use 650watts unless you are going to do some major upgrading in the future, but if this is it then you can save some money and get a cheaper one.

    Re: Hey There

Well, I'm looking to go SLI in the future, which is why I made sure the mobo had one PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot and another PCI Express x16 slot, so I might need something with a little more power. A 550W should worl fine, though, right?

  •  07-09-2008, 8:46 PM 354567 in reply to 354556

    Re: Hey There

ah! good thing you mentioned that you planned to SLI, because the only mobos that support SLI are the 750i 780i and 790i. only nvidia chipsets can do SLI and the intel chipets are limited to crossfire and that is only supported on the P35 P45 X38 X48 as far is i know.

yeah 550w would be more than enough, the 500watt that i linked would be able to handle 9600gso SLI

    Re: Hey There

Good thing you mentioned that only certain mobos can handle SLI, as I just found out that mine can't.

Time to look for another one! :D

But...I don't necessarily need SLI as I'm sure the 9600 will take anything I can throw at it. And that board is pretty awesome.

Nope, I love your legacy rig. The old one of mine which is similar to yours gave me much good memory.

    Re: Hey There

I made this post in a different section of the forum, but I didn't get any definitive answers:

I have a computer that died on me a few years back. I had many good memories with it, but it wasn't until now that I got enough experience with computers to try and troubleshoot the problem.

Today, I took it out of my closet and tried to get it running. No luck. *Skips forward two hours.* I removed all the drives and adapters, and it powered on, with no error codes or warning lights. I plugged the video and sound card back in, and it still worked. However, as soon as I plugged in the drives (HDD, two disc, floppy) it failed.

When unplugged from the motherboard, everything powers on and runs. The hard drive clicks, and the disc drives open and close. However, when I plug them in to the mobo, they don't run. I am at a loss.
