    USB 2.0 not recognized

I have an abit IP35 Pro motherboard.  It comes with 4 usb ports, and an add on for 2 more.  My tower also has 2 usb ports on the side.  ALL are USB 2.0.  None of them are recognized as such.  For example, everytime I pulg in my ipod I get the same message in the system tray telling me that it would work better with USB 2.0.  The driver installation disc for the motherboard won't allow me to install the drivers.  The message it gives says that they are not needed with SP2 or later (I have SP3).  I even tried deleting SP2&3 and then installing the drivers, and I recieved the same message.  Abit never responded to me.  I don't know what I could be missing.

I'm not familliar with that main board, can you post a link to it?

sometimes the ad-on ports only support USB 1.0.

Check your Device Manager/USB Controllers/ and make sure one says enhanced PCI to USB host controller. This is the controller for USB2. If it does not show this, then you probablly need drivers for it. They usually come from MS. They should have installed with your OS

This is a good MOBO. You may be right about BIOS enabled, but most bios come with it enabled by default. At least that I have seen. But I have been wrong before!Stick out tongue

    Grump642,

I looked where you suggested.  In the device manager were are 3 "Other devices" listed 1 SM Bus Controller and 2 USB controllers.  All have exclamation points meaning a problem.  Going to the properties of each (double-click) shows a message for missing drivers.  I updated the drivers, using my motherboard disc, and the 3 items under "Other Devices" are gone.

I plugged in my ipod, and POOF! no message telling me that it could work better with USB 2.0!

    Thanks a lot Grump
