Well I did try looking at AMDs website for motherboard compatibility and the Proc is not even listed yet.

was really curious about the amd 790fx chipset boards . some am2+ boards dont support the 9850 yet
True that most board do not support the 9850 as of yet with out a BIOS update. But the 790FX is for gaming the operations CPU will need a server board to run. Its a entirely different ID that the CPU gives off to the BIOS.

yes but amd is supposed to release the 9950 at 2.6mhz , 140wat's ht speed 4000
im using an gigabyte board GA-MA78GM-S2H with the780g chipset now , with a duel core opty chip. it was not listed in cpu support list on the gigabyte website
Surprised that you can run a opty on the board. I would contact manufactures to see what they will and will not support for CPUs then. And email AMD and see what they recommend for a motherboard for that CPU.
As for the 9950 is a Phenom and not a opty at all. The opty was based for servers the Phenom was based for a gamer.
