HA!Whistler I have been reading this post for about 20 or more seconds and the page is still freaking loading. I have Fios at 20Megs a second. Nothing takes this long not even MLB.com with all their java junk.

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

There's some heap plenty funky stuff going on....ref my last post.

I don't know if it's me just happy clicking....but seems like sometimes it goes in to that perpetual loading.....

I see the "transferring data from 172.16.66.67".... read chat etc

So I click on the link again and it goes to the new page.  Sometimes I end up clicking three times.

For a web site that's supposed to be of, by, and for the tech savy...

Well, Eggxpert is still beta.  At least the logo says so.  Maybe when it goes live they will take it off the Pentium III machine with 256 MB and put it on a new box with a T1 line.

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

A while back, when there were more serious issues with this site, it was extremely frustrating.

That said, I've had nearly zero issues with this site for the last 4-6 months.  (barring servers going down, or something like that)  I find this site to be pretty fast, and it's actually much faster than 2 other forums I frequent.  I'm not saying it's perfect.  It does need some work, it would be nice to get out of Beta (whatever that means here), and it does act a little weird if I'm on EggXpert from a pc other than my own.  It's just a FWIW.

I find more slowdowns due to people's slow-loading sig bars and avatars than anything.

There's a little wierd funkiness.  Ajax was a good cleanser...but...

Of course needs a little study to really address it.

    Haha. Nice one...

It's slow for me too... I'm seeing the "transferring data from 172.16.66.67" etc. but it eventually loads all the way... the last things to load are the eggs to rate posts with. Anyone else seeing this?

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

I occasionally see that also Papahomer...Hmm

If you're using IE6, EggXpert is as slow as molasses in January on the back of a crippled horse going up a hill on the side of a mountain during an icestorm...

If your using IE7, its acceptable, but it still isn't very faster, with load times of the larger pages here in the 5-10 second ranges...

If your using Firefox, its pretty fast, and if your using Firefox 2.0, its perfectly acceptable...

Firefox 3.0 is really, really fast when loading this site, from what I've heard...

Simply enough, the internet browsers that folks are using are one of the biggest issues which the users can fix on their side...

Everything else is up to the Newegg and EggXpert techies...Go Techies! *Waves EggXpert Flag at the NewEgg Stadium*Big Smile

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

I don't really have much of a problem loading content from eggxpert especially due to FF3's browser. Firefox allows you to change the pipe lining and max-persistent-connections-per-server which makes the egg even faster to load. I just notice that even with all that the egg is always working a lot longer than any other website I go too. Everything loads for me but it continues to load.

We are being watched by the tech heads at newegg. :)

I have the forums on flat view but I wonder if it is still loading all the other pages from that thread. Just odd to me that it does that.

Also, loading the compose message page takes longer than normal too. But, I am talking only a few seconds slower than other online messages I compose. I wouldn't notice it if it was the only web based message composer I use. I am use to clicking on a compose message link from other sites and being able to type as soon as it loads -  around 1 - 3 seconds. Egg message composer probably takes around 2 - 4 seconds to load. Not slow but but a bit longer. Just curisious to the reason. Seems kinda of stupid to complain over a second or two.

Hey, I could have dial up and wait 10 minutes. Flushed

Still I have a good time here and it is worth the extra few seconds and what ever info they are stealing from my computer. LOL

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

"RFC 1597  Address Allocation for Private Internets".

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) has reserved the
following three blocks of the IP address space for private networks:

    10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
    172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
    192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255

They are non-routable outside the private network.

Re: FF3.....a brother tipped me off to use NoScript  ... so far it's seemed to improve Eggxpert.

    Oh yeah Aesman....how do you....

Firefox allows you to change the pipe lining and max-persistent-connections-per-server which makes the egg even faster to load.

    Peace y'all

    Pipelining

(btw, thanks for that mention.  I did FF3 from memory, and forgot the ngpaintdelay one.  'natch)

OT, I know, but I need to solicit some help for this thread (FF3 tips thread) if anyone can add to.  Thx!

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

The egg has a very odd delay where it looks like the page is loaded but things continue to load in the background.  It can take a min or so when I need to use one of mei Uber powers to move a thread or the like and that is a true bummer.
