Artic Silver 5

ok I'm going to buy this thermal compound for both my fan/heatsinks on both of my comps.....now heres the question....on bottom of both fan/heatsinks there is this gray stuff...like some crappy factory thermal compound now i read the instructions on putting on AS5, is this the thermal compound they say to wipe off??

Yes it is, I use a razor blade to scrape it off then wet a paper towel with Isopropel alcohol to clean the remainder off then let it dry and apply the AS5 following the instructions. Cool
