    XP Sata drivers without floppy?

The only computer I have running has broken floppy controller. Is there any way to install XP on sata without floppy, as Gigabyte did not include a floppy with Sata drivers. I could do the way I have been and hook up a ide drive and transfer the os afterwards but I'm hoping Gigabyte has good reason not to include sata drivers on a floppy.

You can install with out a floppy you will need to download nLlite for it though here is a article on it.

Re: XP Sata drivers without floppy?

Thanks Tracer but I tried that once and it didn't work
for me. don wan go through the trouble again. I'm gonna
try an old sata floppy from Intel D845PEBT2 board and
if no go I can just hook up the power and data straps
to an IDE, install and use ghost to transfer or even
make a floppy once I'm in the operating system. But
what gives Gigabyte don't include floppy for sata?

Re: XP Sata drivers without floppy?

You can have a look at these two “How To”, which answers the question you have.

Not very complex, have a try and good luck~~~~

Beside that, you can also purchase a latest windows xp CD; it should contain the sata drivers.

Re: XP Sata drivers without floppy?

I agree that the latest XP CD with Sp3 should have the proper drivers. If you really need to install drivers you could hook up a usb floppy and install your drivers that way. There is also a way to add drivers to a Windows XP CD if you need to.

    Here is the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314859/EN-US/

Re: XP Sata drivers without floppy?

    Thanks for all the replies

what I was hoping was that the new boards fool Windows XP into believing the

SATA drive is a IDE drive, which it is, but doesn't treat it any different. As it

turned out that is the case. I had no problem loading XP on a SATA drive

with a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L board. Maybe you all misunderstood my

problem. I was anticipating needing a SATA floppy to install and my broken

floppy driver on my old system couldn't make one.

Re: XP Sata drivers without floppy?

    to further clarify:

I used the same CD. XP slipstreamed SP2, without SATA drivers, which

would not install on a SATA drive in my old system, even though it had SATA

capability, but would on a new GA-EP35-DS3L.

Re: XP Sata drivers without floppy?

yes, you can install os on that mobo cos the SATA drivers on the mobo CD are for the Gigabyte SATA controller,But, most users will want the ICH9R SATA drivers which have to be downloaded either from the mobo or Intel websites. i  think all the mobo vendors should include sata drivers in their mobo cd.
