    Opera Compatibility, Please!

Seems like everything works well except for Emoticon support; clicking the smiley results in a blank box rather than the grid of faces to choose amongst. This should be an easy fix, and I hope it is made :-) (no fancy smiley for me :-( )

    Thanks, MHG

    Welcome back! Big Smile

Are you using the latest version of opera (9.5)?

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

Upgraded from 9.5 beta to final. Was a step in the wrong direction--couldn't even type in the text box, but masking as IE partially fixed things. Now the smiley page shows some faces, but it's sized very small (3x6 emoticons) unless I manually enlarge it. Furthermore, clicking the faces doesn't actually do anything, so for now it's still :-(

BTW, why is the server hawking a less compatible page for Opera when Opera is the useragent? Seems a little off, though I'll reserve the possibliity that my setup is to blame; it's possible, but unlikely.

Edit: I have also explicitely granted the page full rights to Java/Javascript, form decoration, window sizing, etc... So shouldn't be any issues there. Java is also working just fine, but that shouldn't be the problem.

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

Probably incompatibility with the forum software.

I think someone who works here would have to answer as to why.

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

I am using Opera 9.25 and it is also kinda messed up.  Smilies show up full size but when I try to click one it deletes all mei text and replaces it with just the smiley.

seems Opera is not doing so well right now.  FF3 works well but the auto link is still not working here on the egg.

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

    Thanks,

In theory it could be Opera's fault, but that's highly unlikely; I'm actually having pretty good success now using 9.5 forcing the useragent to firefox. Guitar

So it seems these forums attempt to use some of the browser-specific hacks based upon non-standards. The quick fix, for the most part, would be to serve a similar version for Opera clients as is deliverd to FF users. There is a different version dolled out to IE, FF, and Opera users for reasons unknown, and the Opera one does not work at all with Opera! The only issue so far with Opera forcing the FF useragent masking is that the smiley window comes up much too small; only about a sixth of the icons are visible, and the window must be manually enlargened every time (PITA).

Let me know if you need any more info,

    MHG

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

Thanks for the explaination MHG! I will pass on the info. Hopefully its not a browser specific issue that has no fix just like the auto links with FF.

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

Actually, I had the same problem with the smiley box not resizing in Opera 9.27.  But I don't really use them all too much, and when I do, it's by accident. ;)

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

    EDIT:

Also, nobody's fixed the search bug that I pointed out around a year ago, if I remember correctly, (too lazy to look it up... :S  ) mentioned here.

It's simply that, when pressing 'Enter' to search (at the top of the page), it does nothing.  I even proffered a universal solution for fixing it, using the Opera's ability to change the source and reload the page live, to find a bit of non-validating Javascript (I believe) action.  It's in the forums somewhere if anyone cares to look for it.  Not a major issue, like I said then, but.... while you're at it... you know. *shrug*

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

Well I tried using Opera 9.5 final about 2 days a go and well I can not type in the message box so I tried 9.25 as well same issue there. I find Opera to be faster then IE7 and FF.

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

Opera 9.5 works great. Eggxpert's Opera-specific coding doesn't quite... To fix it,

Tools -> Quick Preferences -> Edit Site Preferences...

    Go to "Network Tab".

    Go to "Browser Identification"

    Change to "Mask as Firefox"

    Everything will be okay. :)

Every other site that I go to that uses this same type of Rich Text Box seems to work, so it's gotta be something Eggxpert specific.

I had that problem, too, for a bit.

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

TheLarrikin are you having issues with URL linking at all? Just curios on this one I can not get it to work at all when copying and pasting a URL in to a message. And Chat looks funky.

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

I never chat. Not anymore. *shrug*

And I have to link via the 'HTML' edit button instead of the 'Insert/Edit Link' button, just like Firefox users, I believe.  It's because we're masking as Firefox.  If they fix the error for Firefox, it'd be OK for us, masked like this. Then again, if they just fix the site for Opera, we can be back to the good ole' days, using the easy button method (Pre-9.5 it worked just fine, then the whole site broke for Opera 9.5.  I don't believe it's ever worked for FX.).

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

Well, I'm typing in the textbox as we speak with "Identify as Opera" selected in my prefs.  I think there's still something funky going on with Chat, but then again, I don't know what it's supposed to look like in the first place.

ALL OPERA USERS: Try to go to:

Tools -> Quick Preferences -> Edit Site Preferences...
    Go to "Network Tab".
    Go to "Browser Identification".

and change it to 'Identify as Opera', and let us know if it works for all of you, too.

    :)  Thanks!

EDIT: Well, I came back to check the linking buttons, and it seems they are disabled, much as they are in Fx Mode.  I'm wondering if the site management simply switched them out, so it'll work either way. ...Hmmmm...

Yep that part seems to work for Identify as Opera.

Yep I am as well seeing that the links are disabled still both in Mask as FF and IE.

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

sj1dog - Was the 'working' Fx scripting copied to Opera-identified browsers?  Or, do you think you could copy myself the script, as I could test it to get it to work in Opera?  There is no reason the auto links shouldn't work in Opera, unless there's a problem in the scripting (auto links worked in 9.x right up to but not including 9.5x), which is possible if it's Fx's script, copied.

    Let me know, please.

    Thanks.

    Re: Opera Compatibility, Please!

    Anything on this?

If the Fx script was copied, that's a shame. Autolinks still do not work.  But they should!  Nothing was changed in the latest release to disable them, but they are disabled.  Also, the HTML button is working weird.

    Please respond.
