Well after running orthos for a shore peroid of time i get this error Illegal Sumout and it causes it to stop running. Well i ran orthos like 7-8hours other night and ran fine but i did overclock my amd 5000+BE to 3.1ghz. So what do you think is most likely the cause of this? is it a voltage problem on the cpu? i did do the blended test also for cpu and ram. BTW i ran memtest86 last night on the new corsair ram i put it yesterday and it said its good. So i can only think its the cpu maybe? btw the temps are good on the cpu. Anyways the highest voltage i can go on the cpu is 1.400 volts. Anyways when i overclock with using the fsb up the HT seems to climb to 1.200 on the voltage. Anyways what should i try doing? because 3.1ghz on this cpu is more then reactable.

You need higher Vcore, I would recommend you leave the FSB at stock and just raise the multiplier or you will end up unstable because of the higher HT clock.

Well how much more improvement of performance do you get from overclockign with fsb and mutiplier? i know the fsb makes things run harder but is it a big difference?

When you raise the FSB on an AMD platform it also raises the HyperTransport and the RAM clock, so you end up with more memory bandwidth and more things to try and keep stable. After you find the max speed your CPU can take without getting to hot or the voltage to high you might want to try and lower the cpu multiplier to say 14 and use a higher FSB to achieve the same clock because then your RAM and HyperTransport will be faster.

well i think i might have just found my problem. Im running a cpu/ram test to see if your system is stable and on my 12v its stating like 11.78/11.84 and i think thats bad when this is a new psu(month old) and its not even running at 12volts. Anyways i can run at 13x with a 240fsb get 3.1ghz but orthos and prime like that one error and i notice bsod while playing cod4 and i heard that it can be driver/software problem which i changed a few things and havent seen that error yet. So ima keep it at that setting and see what happens but i think a RMA for a new psu might be what i need.

if u have a 12 volt line and its running at 11.84 or 11.75 thats actually normal if not real life. Think bout it if your psu is 80% efficent it means at 1000watts ur really only gettin a constant 800w, but at max burst you get 1000watts. And ur 12 volts line is running at 98% effiecency which is really good.

Well the other thing it could be is the board that will only let me go upto 1.400volts on the cpu. like right now i have it at 1.400 on a 3.1ghz overclock and with a stress test running it pushed the voltage to 1.425 which isnt a option on my voltage in bios. You think its the board causing bsod? because the ram is new and i tested it with memtest86 and it said it was fine. but still 1.425volts on a 3.1ghz overclock is kind of high. i seen alot of places on the net say you can overclock to 3.1ghz on stock voltage which is like 3.44volts but im pretty sure if i run a stress test which i already did it will give me the illegal sumout withen the first test it runs and when i up the voltage it will run i seen up to like 5-6hours and then get that erro with a higher voltage.

Well, let's see if you can gain something from my experiences below:

System1:  3600x2, 3.1GHz, Evga NF59-SLI, Antec Trio 550,  G.Skill ddr2-800, Zalman 9500A, Seagate ST380011A, 8800GT 256mb, winXP

System2:  3600x2, 2.9GHz, Gigabyte M61P-S3, Antec Earthwatts 430,  G.Skill ddr2-800, Zalman 9500A, Seagate ST380011A, 8800GT 256mb, winXP

Two same CPU, same RAms, OC'd using same mult/divider.  Look closely at the supporting cast.  I tried Earthwatts on system1, passed Prime95 but choked on 3dm06 at 3.1GHz as expected.  M61p didn't go past beyond 2.9G stable even with Trio psu b/c of mobo limitations (somewhat limited memory tweaks).

I think you hit the max.  If you want extreme, find a mobo that can give you Vcore more than 1.4V.  Three things:  Stabilize your CPU first with 1.5v, grab a good PSU, then play with fsb and mem freq/volts/drive settings.  Two unknowns enough to drive you crazy.
