DVD burner, which one to choose?

    Hi,

I am looking to buy a DVD burner (internal) for my computer. But I am not sure which one to choose from. I so far picked these 3.. all of them have both positive and negative comments, so I don't know which one to pick.

I'd like a quiet one but I am more looking for one that has a good duration since my last driver went dead pretty quickly :/ after several burnings. I will be mostly burning DVDs, but occasionally I use CDs as well depends on what type of files I gotta burn.

So far I have picked these three as choices:

Please help and I'd love to hear suggestions on which one to buy, thanks in advance. Big Smile

Hi mLin, I edited your post to make the links hyperlinks, so everyone can advise you easier. I would go with the Samsung, no only because of the price and the reviewers comments saying is quiet, but because I've had good experiences with that brand in optical drives.

Did you know when buying optical drives, you need to consider if your motherboard supports SATA or IDE interface? I ask, because the Asus drive has SATA interface and the Samsung IDE.

    Hi ladytekki,

Thank you very much for the editing and help. How do I find out whether my motherboard supports SATA or IDE? I think mine is IDE, since in my Device Manager it says IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers (Or am I looking at the wrong place?)

    Once again, thanks! :D

You're welcome. Yes, it is IDE interface, then when you choose the burner it should be IDE.

I bought the Samsung IDE one ^ ^ It is working great so far. VERY VERY quiet o_o nearly no sound at all unless I put my ear next to the burner. Thank you very much (again) :D

Re: DVD burner, which one to choose?

Just info for the future. If your motherboard did  have SATA ports, which depending on its age, a SATA burner would have transferred data much faster. People tend to like the SATA drives much more. But IDE should do the trick too!

That ASUS I've installed a number of times, it's a really nice unit.

    Penewah!
