    ASUS DRW-2014L1T media

Got this drive for my new-ish PC build.

First one I got could not handle certain media, for example it did not recognize CD-RWs as rewritable.

Got a second drive through RMA, and now this one appears to be fine, but I'm having an issue with my DVD+R DL media.

I'm using Memorex DVD+R DL discs.  When I attempt to burn to them, all of my burning programs get stuck at the first step, something along the lines of setting the L0 capacity.  It hangs there and doesn't go any further.

Can anyone with this drive recommend double layer media to use with this drive?  Or does it sound like I got another dud?

That’s wired then it should be able to write to that disk with out a problem. I know some one who has that drive and did have issues till he upgraded the firmware and then it was fixed. All he uses is Memorex media for movies and such. He was only able to do it with ver 1.02 he did try 1.01 and that was a no go at all.

    Re: ASUS DRW-2014L1T media

I'll try it again with the Memorex discs I have...I just wanted to avoid a pile of coasters in case there were known issues with certain media.

I heard Verbatim were more reliable when it comes to DL's?

I dont like the costers either but see if it will work. As for Verbatim  yes there really a good brand and a lot of people use them for anything and every thing.

    Re: ASUS DRW-2014L1T media

    Hi,

I built a PC for work useing that ASUS burner, same model. I couldnt get it to burn DVDs at all... RMA'ed it and the second one worked for a week and died again. I used all the firmware updates and all kinds of different discs formats and brands ..includeing Memorex.. only thing I got was an exspensive pile of coasters.

Check out the ASUS forums.. there is a whole slew of posts reguarding this burner... all the same problems. I ended up returning the ASUS model and went with a Sony NEC... havent had a single problem since. My personal PC at home has a Lite-ON.. works like a charm for over a year now, only thing I dont like about the Lit-On is that its a little noiseier then some other brands while spinning up.

    Re: ASUS DRW-2014L1T media

Well if Wasper had a issue then there really is a problem. How ever the best burners on the market are as follows

    1. Lite-On

    2. L.G.

    3. Samsung

    4. Plextor

    5. N.E.C.

    6. Pioneer

I have used all of these thru out the years and never had issues with any of them. and yes that is the order from best to worse IMO.

    Re: ASUS DRW-2014L1T media

Well I'm well over the return period, it's still covered for RMAs but I'm afraid there's no way to get a different one unless I want to cut my losses and buy a different burner.

    Re: ASUS DRW-2014L1T media

I have this same ASUS drive in my new computer.  It (and/or Windows) was having trouble reading music CDs even though it could read data CDs and DVDs just fine.  Then, through Windows Update (Vista 32-bit), I installed a new driver for SATA connections on my nForce chipset motherboard...now the drive works perfectly.  So, you might check out any potential Windows updates, if you don't already have them all installed.
