I just received a new monitor from Newegg
I had a question for our members. I purchased retail and the box it came in appears to have been opened. I have not opened it yet because I beleive this would qualify as an open boxed item. I took some pictures for you to view and tell me if you would even open the box or wait until monday for Newegg's business office to re-open and contact them.
Here is the monitor I purchased http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001273

Re: I just received a new monitor from Newegg
judging from the exterior is groundless...box may be torn during shipping and re-taped by UPS...anyway...keep those pics as evidence...open it and check the monitor...see if it is still intact...

Thankyou for the advice. I am a little apprehensive. It also really bothers me why it was not shipped in another box for protection being it is a monitor. I am considering shipping it back and telling them to forget it, thus going to bestbuy or similiar. This is not good customer service.
Edit: I am almost afraid to even look into the box. I am already disappointed and now have to live with this until monday. If I open the box and see a used product, it will flat make me angry. I think Newegg just lost my business. This is not the first time they have sent me used merchandise but will be the last.

Re: I just received a new monitor from Newegg
All the LCD monitors I've bought from Newegg and Walmart came like that, without any packaging. The first time I was concern, but it turn out to be just fine. The only time I was really scare was when UPS make a routing mistake, and a LCD monitor which was shipped from California to New Jersey ended up being sent from Philadelphia to Connecticut, before being send back to me in NJ. Believe it or not, the LCD survived and is still working. Of course, it was in the original box, not extra package, and it looked very similar to yours. So you can wait. I don't want to advise otherwise, but I'm just sharing my experience so you know this is the way it is.
BTW, I think this thread belongs to the Shopping EggXperience forum, you will get more attention over there, here it can get buried. If you want I can move it, just let me know. I did not do it, because I don't want you to feel more upset than you already are. I'm just telling you, because any other Mod or Uber can move it, without reading this. Please let me know what you want to do?

Re: I just received a new monitor from Newegg
The following items I have received from NewEgg come shipped in their own box only: LCD monitors, Computer Cases, and LCD TV. Though only 1 case had a box that looked anything like what you got where it appeared to be nicked or bumped or re-taped. And when opened the case did not show any signs of damage or any wear and tear. The styrofoam around it should have taken any damage. Your box just looks like it may have been snagged a bit on one end. Most likely everything is good but you do have some record on it now.

Thankyou for your advice ladytekki. It was kind of you to take the time to explain this to me. Had I known this is how it works before I ordered the monitor, I would have never ordered a monitor from Newegg. I beleive the local store chains receive most of thier orders on a skid with several but I could be wrong. I guess I am really bothered, not only by the lack of personal care of shipping, but by the condition of the worn box it came in. I am also concerned about the box box being taped in a way that looks to be crammed together after being opened. In a nut shell, when an electronic component is shipped there should be better care practiced by the re-seller, thus the reliability being compromised. I am in no hurry to start using a new monitor. I really had confidence in Newegg and that is why I trusted them to purchase the monitor from them. I suggest they re-think how they ship electronics that our delicate as an lcd monitor. They should charge accordingly for the shipping. My last few experiences with Newegg have all been bad. I wonder if they are getting like Dell, Nextell, or Comcast did after their success. First the large company's were great until they became too big. Now they are terrible. It seem's they forget how they achieved their successes.
Ha-ha, I had to vent ladytekki. I really respect you and I am always very grateful for you're help.

Re: I just received a new monitor from Newegg
The box and the packing material are designed to protect the contents. That's what really matters. We purchase monitors at regular intervals at work from a variety of mfrs and various vendors. They have all been shipped this way. I wouldn't be at all concerned with opening the box and turning on the monitor. If it's damaged, Newegg will stand behind it.

I thank all of you for your advice. Tommorow when I get home from work I will open the box. I will be positive about this and I will hope the monitor is indeed new and undamaged. I owe that to Newegg and all of you whom have taken the time to help me accept this is how business is done when purchasing lcd monitors. I will then snap some pics and post them for you to view. Thanks again

Re: I just received a new monitor from Newegg
Update: I took it out of the box. There is a deep gauge on the bottom front approximately five inches long. This does it for me. I put it right back in the box and it is going back to the sender after I talk with Newegg's customer service on monday. This monitor is comfirmed an open box product and or used. I just don't get it. When customers choose to give business to a re-seller, how and why does the reseller think it is acceptable to pawn off anything other than new as advertised. The only way this monitor could have bean gauged is from being out of the box. Shipping could not have done this being it was packed in foam and there were not any holes in the box. This makes four out of the last six transactions with Newegg being used and damaged merchandise sold as new or retail. I guess the other reason I am so upset about this is because I am soooooo busy and do not have time to deal with people whom have a hard time doing their job. I can only imagine the excuses I will hear now. There is no excuse. If it is someone whom Newegg does business with then it is Newegg's responsibility to make sure that business represents Newegg accordingly thus reflecting good business practice for customers. I will update how my case is handled by customer service. What an inconvenience

Re: I just received a new monitor from Newegg
Sorry to hear that. I haven't made numerous purchases from Newegg yet; just one large one so far. Four boxes shipped totaling sixteen items and not a single issue. I'm not sure I would be too tolerant of four bad or misrepresented products out of six.
Keep us posted.

Re: I just received a new monitor from Newegg
most packages will come like that~~ since you've already taken some pictures as evidence you can open it to check. If there's something missing, you can call Newegg immediately

Re: I just received a new monitor from Newegg
Jas0n:Please let me know if this isn't resolved by this week, with Customer Service.
Update: My claim went through all three steps. I received a shipping label and an R.M.A. number along with a page to print out and send back inside the package. I called Newegg's customer service to verify how the package was to be given to UPS. First they expected me to wait two to four weeks for UPS to contact me about picking up the package. I explained to Newegg that this was unacceptable. They resent me another email with a new shipping label allowing me to take the package to a nearby UPS store. I did this immediately and the package is in shipping now. I received a ticket from UPS as proof of dropping off this package. Now I sit back and wait for the end resolution. I will keep you updated with what happen's next.
Update: As I am writing this post UPS showed up to pick up the monitor. I explained to him that I dropped it off to their store yesterday. I know this gentleman well because he has delivered our items for years. He asked me about the damage whitch is a scratch or gauge on the bottom of the monitor below the screen, "on the plastic front". This could not have been done by shipping. This was packaged that way by the sender. Newegg put damaged by carrier in my email's and on UPS paper work. I was very clear and reinterated this several times when I first called Newegg about this matter that it was impossible to have been damaged in this way by shipping. This had to be packaged this way. Anyway, I thankyou for your concern and help Jas0n. I will keep you posted.
In closing I wanted to say is what a shame. I need to purchase two laptop's in the near future. I was really looking forward to buying all three of these items from Newegg. Now, I will not. My main reason was not only because of these type of incidents with used items being sold as new or retail but because of the horrible care when shipping electronics. This monitor should have been packaged in another box with some type of packing material to preserve the reliability of the life of the components. In other word's, If this item came in tact and indeed new as purchased, and it worked fine. Whom's to say that after banging around in a freight truck that it would not have gone bad in six months from being rattled around amongst other freight. If the shipping costs more then charge accordingly. Customer service at Newegg is outstanding but this type of doing business practice should be re-evaluated.

Re: I just received a new monitor from Newegg
Thanks for the update. From the pictures you provided, it certainly doesn’t look like shipping damage. Respectfully, I have to disagree on the shipping in the mfr container. If it is not designed for shipping then the mfr needs to re-design their packaging. Seems wasteful to take a properly secured package and package it additional boxes, peanuts. etc. – just unnecessary waste for the landfill and added cost that 99% of buyers don’t need to bear. There are no moving parts in a monitor.

Re: I just received a new monitor from Newegg
Update:
Newegg stood up to the plate once again and refunded me all but 2.99 which is cool with me. Other than the inconvenience, time lost, and frustrations, I am cool with the end of the business deal. Newegg has maintained their integrity, honest business practices and outstanding customer service in my book. I just wish they would focus a little more on their relationship with there business afilliates. I ended up buying the same monitor from a local circuit city for $50.00 more. This was cool with me because I just wanted an unused and undamaged item. I really wanted to give newegg the business for the monitor and I need two laptops that I have not purchased yet. The problem is I cannot trust to order them from Newegg enlight of my experience with the monitor. I will still order smaller things from Newegg. Thank's Newegg for your outstanding customer service.
