    External PS for MP3 player

I have a bargain 1GB Sansa MP3 player.  No docking station like iPOD.  Homer be cheap.

I'd like to listen to it at my desk while I work.  However, I'd be charging batteries every other day.

Usually when you hook up the USB it automatically locks in sync/download type mode..not player.

However, I was thinking about doctoring a USB cord to only connect the 5VDC and not the serial data port.

Has anyone tried this?  Have I inhaled?

On my Sansa, if you plug it in when it's off, it will turn on and be a player.  Charging in the background.  If it's on when I plug it in, it connects for sync.  Maybe that'll work.

What's that all about, anyway?  Stick out tongue

Dude.... I have an M240   Seems like no matter what I do (on/off), it goes in to a "USB connected" mode.     I even tried to "stop" the USB and it just seems to power down the M240.  Does same on my laptop at work too.

I think I've tried to help you a couple of times now.  Nothing.  LOL.

Maybe a bump will help more.  Wink

Back to my Sansa MP3 player.... I just noticed they have a firmware update....I think I'll try that.

Wow...I guess I don't feel so bad going off topic on my own thread....

Where do you get those Shannonisms?   He's like Yogi.   They're great.   I once walked about 5 miles to get an autograph ...it's somewhere buried....I got Lou Brock, Mike Shannon, and someone else.  My legs weren't as long as they are now either.

    Totally.

Believe it or not, one of the better ones can be had via an "I'm feeling lucky" google click.  Just type shannonism.

Nice self-hijack attempt, but I hope you find a solution for the powah...

Re: External PS for MP3 player

OK...I finally got around to it ("round tuit").

Doctored a USB cable to open the data lines and leave the 5VDC lines.   That seems to have worked.  I can now listen to my cheap MP3 player using power from my laptop (without having a fully charged battery).

It used to go into "sync" mode and stay there no matter what I did or how I did it.

It's kind of nice since it seems to have better sound quality than the laptop...might be the ear buds.  Also, with the  ear buds I'm not completely shut out from the outside world...unless I crank em.

you can also put a switch on the data cables, so that if you need to put files on it, you just turn on a switch :), nice to see that you got it working
