seeking heavy duty monochrome laser printer

currently my small business owns a brother hl-2040 and it's dieing out on us. we abuse it like no other printing a good load of sales orders and other documents. we are seeking for a newer heavy duty monochrome laser printer that can withstand all the printing we do. on average we print out at least 300-400 documents a week. we would rather stay away from the brother brand as it hasn't been good to us. we've only had the hl-2040 with us for a year. i'd like some suggestions on what to get next :)

I prefer HP lasers.  Never had one quit without a good reason.

It has a duty-cycle of 10,000 pages, its meant for mass printing.

It also has a network interface so no worries about getting it set-up.  The only downside i see on it, is that it doesn't have an LCD.  So no visual feedback on what is going on.  Looks like you are going to have to use the web interface on it.

    Good Luck

(Also, always use HP brand toners with this.  Those cheap recycled ones will leak toner onto your gears.  Over time it will cake and cause jamming and gear cracking.  Just thought i would mention that.)

thanks. we have been looking into HP's as we've been told by other companies we deal with that their monochrome lasers have done great with all the printing they are put through.

should i not be looking into the newer P2015 model over the P2014 model?

also what's the benefits of getting a DN model? currently we have one printer setup on one computer and shared. that means that computer needs to be on at all times (which it usually is when we are open). do DN models allow the printer to print without that computer being on?

I thought about the 2015, but its a personal one which means it won't be up to the task.  Also, what do you mean by DN printer.

The one i linked to has a ethernet interface so it can connect directly into your network.

SAMSUNG is always my favorite. Compared some serials, I bet SAMSUNG ML-2851ND is ur best choice. It combines a compact and stylish design with the speed and strength of a larger printer. And it can help reduce costs with its monthly duty cycle of 30,000 pages and TonerSaveā„¢ mode that can extend the cartridge life up to 40%. Working hard and looking good.Wink

Hope it would help.  Good luck.

DN designation at the end of a printer name means it has Duplexer and a Network Printing capability.

N designation means that it just has the Network Printing capability.

Get the N model (unless you need duplexing aswell), that way you wont need to leave a computer turned on, and all of the computers will print directly to the printer.

As far as printer recommendation, what is the company's budget?

Re: seeking heavy duty monochrome laser printer

I've been using HP's at home and in my wife's office for more years than I care to admit.  Their workgroup printers are generally bulletproof.  My wife is a court reporter and prints thousands of pages a week.  We also use all HP's in my office (I'm the LAN Admin).  I wouldn't buy anything but an HP.  If the morons in my office can break them, no one can!

I would suggest a model such as the Laserjet 4250.  It'll set you back a few bucks, but it will last for years and years.  The only maintenance I've ever done on an HP is to replace the rollers, which do eventually wear out after a few years.
