    VISTA + Internet = INSANITY

Ok this is how it goes. Ever since i installed vista My internet has been going haywire. My internet will work for a while....and then stop for a while. I dont know why but its almost website related. On myspace (yes i use myspace) Images for people profiles and default pictures have problems loading. or a lot of times when i go to Inbox internet stops, but only for me. I have tried using several internet clients and it get the same problem. I know its my computer because every other computer on my network has no problems...except for the other one that uses vista. I am using ESET NOD32 Antivirus. I have tried turning it off along with windows firewall, windows defender, and all other virus applications. I am not 100% sure that i turned off Windows defender correctly though. I couldn't find how to turn it off from windows so i just stopped the .exe in Task Manager. I have even tried running Mozilla Firefox in compatibility mode for XP SP2. Nothing. My internet service does not need grounding. I use Cox High Speed internet. I don't know if it will help but here are my PC specs:
2.4 Ghz Pentium 4 single core
    1 gb kingston Ram
32 mb ati radeon (forgot model)
    180 W PSU
    using standard Ethernet adapter

also, when i go to a page that doesnt load, everything stops loading for a good minute and ten it works fine again

PLZZZ give me an ideas that would help im going insane!!!!

Re: VISTA + Internet = INSANITY

First older computer so have you checked for dustbunnies lately???  Maybe built up around CPU fan.  Nice can of duster does wonders every once in a while.

Second network and or Vista???  Do some speed tests and see where you're at.

Have you ran all updates and is this one included, most likely not as I don't think it is an update but a work around.  Can be reversed by typing normal instead of the highlyrestricted.

Have you checked you cox cable site to see if they have any tools to speed connection settings in vista???

Re: VISTA + Internet = INSANITY

Spped looks fine but that is just a test.

Dslreports is a good place to post and find info for intrernet connection.  I found a few posts and two people mentioned a piece of plastic left over on the coax was causing their problem so you may want to check the coax out for a  good connection and check for any plastic that sill may be on the connector.

What is the modem you are using and is that all you are going through to reach internet, ie no router???  Another posted updating their modem do DOCSIS 2.0 fixed problem.  As the newer modem was getting better signal strength.   Really shouldn't need to do that though but depends.

Have you already tried unplugging the modem and plugging it back in or resetting if that doesn't work.

Re: VISTA + Internet = INSANITY

Try the command with disabled, and you are running the command as admin right.

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Is that wired or all wireless??

Re: VISTA + Internet = INSANITY

It's obviously something specific to your computer and not the router, so it just sounds like your motherboard's network adapter is having problems.

Do you have the chipset LAN driver for your motherboard? Maybe if you did an uninstall/reinstall, it will fix the problem. Try all the simple stuff; disconnect your network cable and reconnect it, try the "repair" function when you click on your connection icon, etc. Sometimes the simple stuff fixes those problems.

You're using IE7? I know you said you tried Firefox, but have you tried other browsers, like reverting to IE6, Opera, or Avant?

I run into a similar problem whenever I have something downloading via Bit torrent.  Is that what you are using Luke?

Re: VISTA + Internet = INSANITY

Just my opinion sounds to me as it's a prob with Vista as you said you have probs with both pc's that run Vista. Also by looking as your specs for your Vid card and what not and psu maybe it's just not enough to handle Vista as it is a freakin HOG and still has many many bugs. You say everything runs find on the XP machine which tells me it very well might have something to do with the OS and your hardware. Hit me up if you want i'm in Phoenix your more then welcome to bring the tower by and we can plug it in over here and I can try and trouble shoot some stuff if you like.

Re: VISTA + Internet = INSANITY

I've seen google's toolbar do that on numerous XP boxes. Once turned off, the problem went away.

    Just a thought...
