On Monday Mar 17 2008, NewEgg had a daily deal of a Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3750330AS 750GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM (N82E16822148298) for $149.99 & I had a price alert set for $150, but NE never sent me a notification e-mail.
The PriceAlert page says the current price is $159.99, however if I open the item page, the price is clearly $149.99 ($159.99 - "You Save $10.00"). No newsletter promo codes, etc. required. I was able to place an order for this & the item is in Stage 5 with a UPS Tracking#.
Do price alerts not include the "You Save" amount? If not, then I'd think price alerts are useless as about half of NE's items are subject to a "you save" type discount. Not generating a price alert on a mail-in-rebate might be understandable, but the "you save" & instant rebates should definitely be included in the price for deciding when to send an alert. After MIR prices are probably worthy of an alert too.
I just happened to check the daily deals page & was thinking the price of the HDD was below my target purchase price & was able to pick one up.
Anyone from NE want to shed some light on the Price Alert functionality?
