    AMD's Radeon HD 3870 X2 Benchmarked

HD3870X2 looks great in the review except in anandtech.

I couldn't find the anandtech review. Looks like they got it working on a 680i board, though, which means no necessary crossfire support.

Pretty impressive. Definitely the fastest ATI card to date. Good to see them getting back in the game.

Now we wait to see whether the 9*** series curb stomps it.

Hmm since crossfire scales better than SLI, I see HD3870 x2 crossfire matching 9800gtx SLI in performance

What can I say WOW!  This is looking pretty impressive so far, like others have said It would be great to see how the 9 series Nvidia cards compare.  However for about $440 dollars this does seem to be an attractive buy.

Possibly. I still haven't been able to get an answer as to whether DX10 has more frame buffers than DX9 (three). If they kept it the same, then crossfireing a pair of these bad boys won't do much... the fourth GPU will just sit idly by twiddling it's thumbs.

its impossible to crssfire any more then 2

notice theres only one gfx card serial link on the top unlike the 3870's which have 2 to allow quad crossfire

    Re: AMD's Radeon HD 3870 X2 Benchmarked

Technically, one card is already in crossfire, so having more that two would require septa or octa crossfire support.

What's odd is that they're saying you don't need a crossfire board to use it.

i really dont care which of the two is better, 3870 x2 or the 9800 x2...

i wont be getting any unless it is dirt cheap...as my best option right now is either to buy another gt or another 3870...

Im sure neither will be ''dirt cheap'', Im not getting any of the two anyway because I don't have the cash for that right now

    My estimates:

    HD3870 $450 minimum            2 hd3870s are like $480 or more

    9800GTX $600 minimum           2 8800GTS(G92) are like $620 or more

Looks like my predictions were on point lol

    Re: AMD's Radeon HD 3870 X2 Benchmarked

ATI def came out swinging with this card.  The official AnandTech review with the latest drivers are up and it is nothing but positive.

Here is an excerpt from the final thoughts

It has been far too long since AMD/ATI have been at the top of the performance charts; the crown had been lost on both CPU and GPU fronts, but today's Radeon HD 3870 X2 introduction begins to change that. The Radeon HD 3870 X2 is the most elegant single-card, multi-GPU design we've seen to date and the performance is indeed higher than any single-card NVIDIA solution out today.

The 9800GX2 is supposed to retail at $450 MSRP, so think more like $500-$550.

According to Anandtech, a second GT is still the best upgrade solution for someone like me.

I don't see why the 8750x2 is so cool. It's not all that much faster than an single 8800 ultra from what I've seen. I'd take 8800gt in SLI over this any day. woopty doo ATI/AMD is finally back on top but they had to use dual GPU card to do it. but hey if some one wants to give me one I won't complain Big Smile

A bit faster than an Ultra is nothing to sneeze at, especially when you're getting it for $200 cheaper.

    Re: AMD's Radeon HD 3870 X2 Benchmarked

    Actually...

the 3870 in the Toms Hardware benchmarks ran pretty close to 8800 Ultra. 3870X2 beats  a single 8800 Ultra by a little bit in 1600x1200, and by a small chunk more in higher resolutions with filtering on.

So 2 GPU's is better than one? Big deal.

8800 Ultra SLI and Tri-SLI were not tested against 3870 X2 or 2x 3870 X2 cards in crossfire. So there is no definative winner, except in cost as has been mentioned.

Let's not forget that later this month 9800 GX2 and GTX cards are due in stores...

While what you say may be true CAGG, you have to admit that it's about time something really good came out of ATI.

I just can't wait to see how the new X2 cards run in Crossfire mode after the drivers are released in March.

It is about time ATI made something really good, but is it good enough? ATI needs something to blow the doors of nvidia to get it back in the running (like the 8800 series did to them). I'm glad that ATI can have its moment of glory the only problem is their going to be pushed back in their hole next month when the 9800gx2 hits us. Although ATI seems to have a good price point with this one which may help.
