    Why is EggXpert so slow?

I have been browsing and posting and looking at a lot of stuff on this site. But i have a cable internet connection and this site is extremely slow. Why is it so slow? It took me 2 minutes to post a reply in quick reply. And that was the loading time to get rid of the quick reply box. Not the time it took to get the post to show up.

    Nvidia or bust!

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

This site has been super slow for me from day one of being here. I think a lot of it has to due with the fact that there are so many uses online at once and it kinda clogs things up.

    That's my take.

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

Yeah, I don't think Eggxpert was expected to go this fast.

I know several forums that had to upgrade their databases and server to handle the traffic.

Gen[M]ay and HardOCP had the same issues .. and still do ... so many users.

The site seems to speed up at night time when less users are online.

Also, the server has to process Searches, updates stats , and various other information.

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

It has been so bad lately that I have actually been unable to post. Overall my poosts are a fraction of what I usually do because of the speed which sometimes times out.

We apologize for the lag on the site. We are aware of this and are working on the DB structure to get it fixed.

Please have patience as we take care of this issue.

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

Thats very odd .. i had absolutely no problem entering this site. As a matter-a-fact it is probably the fastest loading site of the many sites i navigate to. I have Comcast high-speed cable internet by the way. (I think its like 11 mb/s)

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

I only have 0.75mbps here but I tried it at my school where they have 45mbps and the same slow loading time happened

Im not sure why its happening ...

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

you are being pelted by cookies constantly. I wonder if turning off anti-spyware would speed it up. The big one they use is ad.doubleclick . It is a very common cookie. I have seen it around.

It appears that this isn't your average word exchange "dumb" forum.

    from http://www.doubleclick.com/privacy/faq.aspx?id=392&terms=ad.doubleclick

    FAQ

    What are cookies?

A “cookie” is a small text file containing a string of alphanumeric characters. There are two types of cookies: a persistent cookie and a session cookie. A persistent cookie gets entered by your Web browser into the cookie folder on your computer’s hard drive. A persistent cookie remains in that cookie folder, which is maintained and governed by your Web browser, after you close your browser program. A session cookie is temporary and disappears after you close your browser. DoubleClick’s ad-serving and paid search listing (“DART Search”) products utilize the same cookie: the DART cookie. The DART cookie is a persistent cookie and consists of the name of the domain that set the cookie (“ad.doubleclick.net”), the lifetime of the cookie, and a “value.” DoubleClick’s DART technology generates a unique series of characters for the “value” portion of the cookie.

What is the DoubleClick cookie doing on my computer?

If you have a DoubleClick cookie in your Cookies folder, it is most likely a DART cookie. The DoubleClick DART cookie helps marketers learn how well their Internet advertising campaigns or paid search listings perform. Many marketers and Internet websites use DoubleClick’s DART technology to deliver and serve their advertisements or manage their paid search listings. DoubleClick’s DART products set or recognize a unique, persistent cookie when an ad is displayed or a paid listing is selected. The information that the DART cookie helps to give marketers includes the number of unique users their advertisements were displayed to, how many users clicked on their Internet ads or paid listings, and which ads or paid listings they clicked on.

Why does your cookie keep coming back after I delete it?

When you visit any website or search engine on which DoubleClick’s DART technology is used, our servers will check to see if you already have a DART cookie. If the servers do not receive a DART cookie, the servers will try to set a cookie in response to your browser’s “request” to view that Web page. If you do not want a DART cookie with a unique value, you can obtain a DoubleClick DART “opt out” cookie. Alternatively, you can adjust your Internet browser’s settings for handling cookies. This is explained in the next question.

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

I often have to click on a link or a post button several times to get it to activate.

I often submit a post then browse on another tab(s) in Firefox while Eggxpert decides to process the mouseclick.  Once I see that a new page has loaded, I come back.  It is very annoying.  This does not happen at all in Internet Explorer.

I can believe cookies or Javascript is the reason.  I do everything I can to prevent sites like doubleclick from invading my computer. SpywareBlaster, Noscript, AVG antispyware, Spybot S&D resident are all running at the moment.  I also run Ad-aware regularly.

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

Na, it's my 28.8kb/s Dial-up connection eating away at all your bandwidth, I'm always loading a page so it's kinda busy. ROFL

Hmm  I guess any lag would go un-noticed by me unless it was very bad. Stick out tongue

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

It's taking around an average of 35 seconds to fully load a page. I just checked my down speed and an getting 15 megs down. It is an irritation.

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

To answer this question, I turn to whois information. I then checked Newegg Whois and with this information as a webmaster of my own 2 websites, they are hosted on different servers and it appears on different networks. Let me also point out that if you run a tracert which I did, the tracert shows many more "node hops" which are servers along the way your request must be sent to before getting to the end destination. Let me just give a simple example: My tracert to eggxpert.com registered as over FOURTEEN (14) hops (ICMP aka ping requests are restricted after that), however the tracert to newegg.com ended completely after EIGHT (8) hops meaning ICMP (ping) requests were allowed by the server.

This should give a clear picture of why the server is slower to process all requests. The two servers are in fact located on different Points-of-Presence (POP) with different backbone providers. The backbone to Newegg is "Global Crossing" or gblx.net which is a high quality provider whereas eggxpert.com is on charter, which is not necessarily bad, it just doesn't have quite as many POPs as Newegg so latencies/ping times are slower.

Hope this helps and Happy New Year,

    Slmclarengt

Re: Why is EggXpert so slow?

If we could turn down some of the "Trend Collecting" (aka ad.doubleclick, Casale Media and whatever is at 172.16.66.67 etc...) I would imagine it would speed things up a little. It wouldn't be so bad if this was transparent but it freezes on this stuff.
