    Question for the guys

I'm thinking of buying the 2008 Mazda MX-5 power retractable hard top (PRHT) convertible (Grand Touring, 6sp auto, black/tan, Premium package)...

    1) Is it girly?

    2) Should I buy it? If not, what would you recommend? My budget is under 30k. Looking for Sporty

    Re: Question for the guys

Thanks lol. Glad to hear first hand experience. The count is currently at 2 and 2. And swaydude is wondering if I'm going to have a matching bra for the car (we all in Cutechat right now)

I'm going to go take it out for a test drive over the weekend. Who knows, I might hate it or I might drive home with one.

    Re: Question for the guys

The MX-5 is actually a pretty good car. I've sat in the new and older ones. And I don't think that manual and automatic makes that much of a difference in the car. I guess if you don't get bright pink with flowers on it, then it won't look girly. Black looks nice. So therefore:

    1) No it's not girly.

    2) Depends if you like it or not. Let us know how your test drive goes. Dunno what other convertibles are out there for that range.

I've heard rotary engines have problems (cost of keeping one running is high) Sad

I'll definitely let you guys know how I like it. I think I'll do it Saturday.

Looks great and how much is the car anyway?

Personal Note: I preferred 4 seats cars because it is more convient to carry people or some of my storage items.

The type I'm looking at is just shy of 30K but on the low end you can get away with 22K I think...

Weren't you suppose to be retiring? *grin*

    Re: Question for the guys

I don't think it's girly.  An uncle of mine had a miata years ago.  He liked it.  I looked at them myself over the summer.  I was tempted.

I have heard that the RX-8's have to be started daily and be taken to at least 3k rpm or they won't always start for you.  I travel too much to worry about that.  Don't know if it was supposed to be that way for the RX-7's or not.

I wouldn't be ashamed of owning an MX-5 though.

When I was looking for a sporty little car over the summer, I looked at MX-5's, briefly at the RX-8, Pontiac Solstice,Saturn Sky, Nissan 350z and bought an '07 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT.

Ya, I've been looking at all of those and even at the Honda S2000 CR, even though its above my price range.... but I don't think it's worth it since I'm not that much of a racer.

Thanks for the comments so far!

    Re: Question for the guys

I like it..and I usually don't like Miata's believe it or not, but that one is very nice looking.

I'm a pretty big Mazda fan, I prefer Rx-7's. My boyfriend almost bought a Miata, an older one, which was pretty nice.

I say, if you like it, go for it, you'll definitely get chick attention. Lol.

    Re: Question for the guys

It's a nice car, my only recommendation would be to get it with a stanadard transmission instead of an automatic. I will be completely honest in my perception when looking at vehicles on the street, if this is something you are wondering "what some might think?'. I'll see something like this MX-5 or a RX-8, Mustang GT / Cobra, Lancer, Nissian Z or any other sports car on the street, if it catches my attention I will go out of my way to walk all the way to the car and look right inside the window, if I see an automatic shifter my first thought is that a women must own this 'cute little sports car' but if I see a manual shifter, then my first thought is, 'saweet!' And this isn't just me thinking like 'a guy' My girlfriend even has the same prejudice, she drives a 2004 Mustang 5-speed manual. I drive a 2000 Jetta 5-speed manual as well and the only way I'll ever get automatic is if they don't offer a Humvee in a 5-speed. =)

Ok, now that I said that. You will know the moment you take it off the lot for that test drive if you like it or not. Someone made a good suggestion, see if you could drive it by yourself so you could really give it some gas and see if you get excited from the feeling of the car and test it's handling, this is what is usually the best thing about these little cars, what they are lacking in power they usually more than make up in cornering.

So yeah, if you need lession in driving a standard transmission, let me know. =) And if you want to wait for some real muscle, wait till Feb. 16th 2008

    Re: Question for the guys

I do like a manual trans but my car is auto.  Has the autostick but it's not the same.  I have to admit, it is easier on my knees though (my knees don't like me very much).
