which pc should i go with?

i'm thinking of purchasing one of these two pc's on newegg at the end of the week when they come in (hopefully), their ETA is 11/30/07:

    iBUYPOWER Gamer 535-XE Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 2GB DDR2 500GB NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT Windows Vista Home Premium - Retail

i find that the components in both pc's are very similar. The ibuypower pc is $50 cheaper with a $50 mail in rebate and a slightly faster processor (also looks nicer), while cyberpower has a somewhat better reputation. I've heard that ibuypowers are good as long as you don't modify the build before you order, but im not entirely sure what route to go. both look very good for the price. I'm pretty much getting it for the 8800gt so i can sli with another card.

also, when builds come to newegg from other companies, does newegg check or test them or something before sending them out?

    any thoughts?

Re: which pc should i go with?

I know newegg won't test the system before they send it out, because it is not their job to do so.  Only the company are responsible for this, however did they actually tested it before shipping it out no idea.

Re: which pc should i go with?

If I was you, I would get the 6400+ but you will need a much bigger Power Supply, so buy you a PC Power n Cooling 750W one to go along with it.

The power supply in both of those is far to weak to run two 8800GT's in SLI.

I think the one with the 6000+ cost more because it comes with keyboard and yada yada. do you need a new one?

nah, i don't need another keyboard or mouse.

i suppose i could get an extra power supply...although i read how the minimum for 8800gt in sli is 450W. does it need to be that much bigger a power supply?

Re: which pc should i go with?

It completely depends on the quality of the PSU and the 12V amperage rating, but basically you want it to be bigger than you need so it will last a good long time, and take any future upgrades you might add If you don't have to many drives or USB's plugged in than a 650W should suit you just fine.

And remember, any PSU that comes with a case is usually garbage to begin with. Most people here would recommend a new one just because it comes with it, and might cause you problems down the road.

Re: which pc should i go with?

Have you thought about building your own? Plenty of information out there to assist in building one and you can probably build one cheaper with all the current deals going on. Just an idea...

Re: which pc should i go with?

If i had to chose and not build one, then i'd pick the 2nd one.  just because it's cheaper and has a beefier cpu.  sure it's not an intel c2d, but hey, to each his own.  j/k i'm not a fanboy but love my e6750 from intel.  the psu should be fine, plenty of juice for now and if you want to go sli then wait and get a new psu.  that should only cost you another $500 for both.  so i'd suggest on holding off on that upgrade.  everything else looks sweet.  i have an nzxt apollo and can give you my honest opinion on nzxt cases, they are awesome and this one is way better looking.  they are not cheap and flimsy like other cases.  rest assured that badboy has plenty of space for upgrades and then some.  but that's my opinion.  like i said, i'd prefer to build my own, it's easy and it's a great learning experience.

Re: which pc should i go with?

If price is your main concern and these are your only choices get #2. I would nor get either however as they have CPU's that employ receding technology. This is not the time to go AMD. Perhaps in a year they will have something competitive but not now.

Re: which pc should i go with?

I've bought two gaming PC's from Cyberpower (including the one in my sig) and have had virtually no problems with them.  My Enermax 565 watt PSU did fail a couple of days ago but I don't think I can blame Cyberpower for it.  If you haven't checked "resellerratings.com" yet I would encourage you to do so.  It's a good site for feedback on all kinds of companies, including PC builders.

I'm also an Intel guy (was an AMD x64 customer before the C2D came out) and wouldn't buy an AMD x2 chip with all things being equal but you get pretty good bang for the buck with their chips.  If you're on a tight budget you may not have much choice.

Just ordered the Corsair HX620 modular PSU from Newegg to replace my burned up Enermax unit and am pretty stoked about getting rid of the excess cables that I don't use.

If I had that kind of money, I would be building it. Toss a request out for some lists man, its not that hard at all to throw a system together.

Re: which pc should i go with?

I would go Intel but that's just me. I am usually an AMD fan but the new Intel's are doing much better then the AMD's I have some spec's that i'm looking at for my new build i'll post them here when I find them.

Re: which pc should i go with?

What do you have against AMD yamfox?AMD rocks! AMD's processors are so much cheaper than Intel's and work just as good. Example: AMD: AMD  Athlon 64x2 5000+, 2.6ghz, $87.00. Intel's equal: Core 2 Duo E4700, 2.6ghz, $148.99. Thats nearly twice the price for the same amount of power. I'm not saying that Intel sucks, I'm just saying that AMD processors are a much better bargain and they work just as good. Also, to whoever is choosing between these computers, just build your own PC. It will be cheaper and you will get exactly what you want.

Re: which pc should i go with?

I agree with the suggestion to build your own PC. It's very easy nowadays (pretty much just plug everything into the power source, turn on the PC and if it doesn't work double check the connections). Think of it this way: building your own rig will give you the same performance, for less $, with a better understanding of how your system works. It really is a smart move to at least consider building your own PC.

However, I would stay away from AMDs in general (personal preference). I previously owned this rig:

    AMD 64 X2 6000+
    Foxconn 590i SLi board
    8800GT
    2GB 1066MHz DDR2 RAM

And my current rig performs better:

    Intel C2D E6600
    ASUS P5B Deluxe
    8800GT
    2GB 1066MHz DDR2 RAM

I feel like those setups were pretty comparable. A well-respected AMD dual-core vs. a well-respected Intel dual-core, motherboards of similar characteristics, identical RAM and video card. Quite simply, the Intel smoked the AMD. 3DMark06 gave them about equal performance, but the Intel rig absolutely destroyed the AMD rig when it came to gaming. Much smoother gameplay, less crashes, and overall better performance, even in regular OS use. For some reason, I just could not configure the AMD setup to work the way I wanted it to. It seemed to randomly freeze up when I could see no reason for it. It *may* have been a compatibility issue between the motherboard and the RAM, but the reviews that I'd read suggested that the Crucial Ballistix RAM I was using would work fine with the particular AMD mobo I chose. The only thing I've ever had to adjust in my Intel rig was the memory frequency, which I also had to do in the AMD rig, so that doesn't make any difference. Intel showed better, more consistent performance overall.

AMD is really struggling to keep up with Intel right now, especially with the disappointment that was their quad-core release. Granted, my experience may be an exception; I know a lot of people really support AMD, and if you've had a good experience with them, then that's good for you. But I'm just sharing what I saw from relatively similar setups.

Anyway, consider building your own, and consider looking at Intel.
