Re: how much have you overclocked your processor

I run a 939pin FX-55(2.6) thats been sitting at 2.8 on air for almost two years with no problems,Maxed it at 2.93.  Also just got a 5000be(2.6) iv had over 3.2, still playing with that one. Dont like going max constant- but i do run about 3/4 max oc for as long as i own them. So thats not going to take any records. But im guessing we will all read some "interesting" results on this subject.

Re: how much have you overclocked your processor

    I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800 toledo core 939 socket 2.4GHz.

I usually run it at 2,600,000,000 Hz lately, but I used to run it at 2,880,400,000 Hz all the time. (had to bolt an extra fan onto the back of my Zaleman to get it that high stable n cool)

I haven't been able to get it certified on my Dial-up connection. Crying

    "Currentley" running my AMD FX-57 (2.8 stock) @ 3.0 (12 x 250); V-Core @ 1.425; HT Bus @ 1,000 (4 x 250). RAM @ 333Hz (166 setting), reading a total of 415Hz (2.5-3-2-6).

I have been using theses settings for about 2 weeks now without issues. So far these settings have given me the smoothest performance and the highest 3DMark06 score of 5,717 (running res @ 1920 x 1200 on a 23" screen).

I have gotten this CPU up to 3.1 but had a few issues with it making it through 3DMark06. I ended up working back down to where I'm at now, just trying to be a little safe. Overall this isn't too bad on air. Smile

i run stock period. ive never had a home built machine fail on me and they run cool and quiet in stock.

no o/c - the waste of power and noise just arent worth the few hundredeths of a percent increase in speed. your processing power goes up by a few percentage points and your hardware ages 25% faster... no thank you. i prefer my machines to last 3-4 years before they get replaced due to lack of speed rather than catastrophic failure.

I couldn’t have said it any better. Applause Some people just don’t get it I guess. Indifferent

First;  it’s more than a “few hundredths” of percent, if you do it right.

Second;  if you have good cooling and don’t get stupid with your settings your components will last until they are outdated.

Third; “waste of power”, If you have a good power supply with plenty of power who cares. What are you going to save it for a rainy day, Storm or perhaps trade it in for some plasma, or nuclear power or....

Fourth; “Noise”, what noise. I got out my stethoscope and couldn’t find any.

OK, now I'm getting bored... Wacko DieDie Censored

Very impressive my friends!!! I ended up settling on the 6000+ x2 and as many may know, its maxed already and not even worth OCing. I do have an old 3000+ 939 clicking at 2.5 though, and its solid. Saying that, my next chip will indeed have some room to waste some power for some insignificant performance gain. Man I wish I got an Opty or that 5000+!! Sad

No, i would totally think about a quad core right now b/c price/performance, you cant match and prices are not going to go down until 2009 so you might as well spend the money now and have the power, 80-150$ spent now will last 2 yrs vs the 125$ now plus the 125$ next year and you have the same performance now vs later on down the road and your still spending the same amount of money, i just spent mine now and im doubling the work your doing for a year or so on your rig.

What socket is that? I had my old 3200+ Barton core up at 2.6GHz forever, I just needed a Monster fan to cool it.

    X2 4400+ @ 2.75 on water. Sorry, no screenshots - I'm at work. :P

Steeda, what kind of cooling are you using? I'll be putting together a similar rig in the near future and I was wondering what I could expect on water. Also, I didn't know anything about Wintec RAM, so I looked it up and it seems like decent and fairly inexpensive stuff. Is there a particular reason you went with that, or was that just a budget sort of decision?

Re: how much have you overclocked your processor

Good questions, first of all, I use a gigabyte hsf, I purchased it here http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=BROWSE&N=200369&product_code=342253

I read good reviews on it and im quite surprised at the performance. 28-32c @ stock, never over 35-42c at 3.58ghz. I am using artic silver though.  The ram, is actually Aeon memory and I read excellent reviews on it and talked to some people around my city and decided to trust them.  I have been completely satisfied with them, I bought 1 more 2gb kit b/c they performed well, I cant get them to run at 4-4-4-12 on the p5k3 board but thats ok.  To be honest i want sell them for 1066mhz memory  and get a higher fsb maybe a higher overclock.  I have gotten this memory on this processor up to 950mhz on a gigabyter p35 board but it didnt have raid

    So this is my settings. 400MHz, 9 x multiplier, Vcore 1.4450, MCH 1.44, CPU VTT 1.23, ICH 1.15, CPU GTLREF (both) 1-4 69%, DDR2 2.250, ichio 1.6 and DDR2 Ref 2%.

Any suggestions? Should I tunrn anything down? Or should I turn anything up? I am probably going to increase my Vcore to about 1.46.

I currently fail OCCT at around 2 minites, but I was told by someone that it really isnot worth the cost of electricity to pass OCCT. I can make different users in my bios settings so I will probably create a user for 3.2Ghz, 3.4Ghz, 3.6Hz and maybe higer.

Re: how much have you overclocked your processor

Overclocking that CPU is amost the same as the 6400+, in the sense that the CPUs themselves are almost maxed out to begin with. I had a unlocked 2500+ Barton core, FSB was 333 (not 400 like yours), but I had it overclocked at 2.34Ghz for YEARS, that was also my peak. I actually just sold my system for BIG BUCKS.... $580, but it has a X1950Pro, 2 x 1 gig PC3200, and a 20" Dell LCD 16:9, plus HDTV tv tuner.
