    The new website desing

    Hello everyone.

I have been buying quite a lot of gear from newegg in the last few years for my personal use. Recently, I managed to convince my manager to stop buying Dell boxes and get parts from newegg instead and assemble our computers in-house. First we ordered parts for 4 upper-end PCs and 1 kick-butt server. Everything went smoothly, took us 2 days to put together the PC. The computers are happily crunching data, server is serving files wonderfully. We saved a lot money for the company, manager is happy, there will be more orders from newegg coming up soon.

Sorry, but I have to vent off some steam here now. Bear with me.

The new newegg.com website desings SUCKS badly and lacks any logic.

There is this orange drop-down menu on top of the and then there used to be hot deals, specials and promotions listed below it with photos of item, ratings and prices. It was a wonderful design from the marketing point of view because even if you casually browsed to the website without looking for anything particular, chances are some of the deals and promotions caught your attention and more often than not you ended buying something from newegg. Visually it looked really nice and the same time it was a great tool to catch visitors' attention

Now some genius decided to change that functional and well-desinged layout. Thank goodness, they kept the orange menu but the deals and promotions are gone now and have been replaced with basically the same options that are in the orange menu. WHAT AN ILLOGICAL WASTE OF VALUABLE SPACE. Guys, this is your front page, it is supposed to grab visitors' attention and make them want buy something from you. As it is now, the changes have made the page look bland, boring, uninspired. It gives an impresion that there is nothing exciting about newegg.com.

Please go back to the previous layout.

     Anyone will second that ?

Greg (sad to see the new face of newegg.com)

Not necessarily, speak for yourself.... I think the new design seems more functional.. You don't have to go through menus to jump right to what you're looking for..  So it seems faster in that regard.. Many sucessful sites use similar layouts (PriceWatch, Craig's List, etc.)..   There are some options you can change and customize it to make the site look more like what it did before the changes..  But I'm sure NewEgg will listen to your complaints (and everybody else who has already complained).. But it seems for everyone who has complained their is at least one person who likes the new layout better.. Honestly I couldn't care less if the text was upside down or in Chinese..  It's still NewEgg Big Smile.. New design, old design.. Doesn't matter to me at all..

There are lots of people who will second that (Just check out many of the other threads in this section)..  Perhaps you could give some ideas and suggestions that would be better instead of just going back to the old format? Might be useful...  Just for the record, I don't work for NewEgg, I'm just a regular user like you..

    Re: The new website desing

I believe that the old layout was as good as they get. Deals and promotions were displayed prominently and the entire layout was both functional and logical with good eye appeal. It was simple and elegant while being exciting and attention-grabbing. It made you want to browse the website even if you were not lookimg for anything specific. They should have never messed with it. I cannot offer any suggestion because the old desing was really difficult to improve on.

See the amazon.com, they use similar layout as newegg's old one but even they (amazon) managed to mess it up it a bit and make the page look disorganized.

Newegg had a great design but not any more.

    Re: The new website desing

i liked the old layout as well....

deals are cool to look thru. and really helps new comers see what your about right away, with out even havening to think about what they want... they see deals on stuff they might have not even thought about buying yet and there it is right in front of them with reviews and specs!

one more thing....i like the daily deal posted on tiger's cover page its pretty cool and wouldn't hurt your site to have something of the like.

mass respec newegg... you got a good thing going. between you and my computers my girlfriend gets jealous. keep it up!YesCool

Embarrassed [:$] Re: The new website desing

♠ Wow, are we still kicking that dead horse? This topic has been brought up many times yet people insist on coming in and creating NEW threads to gripe about it. Frankly I'm sick of it. Between the possible downsides of the new design (to which I see none) and people continuously feeling the need to create new threads to beat a very much DEAD horse...

I find the site to be the lesser annoyance... ♠

No, I dislike it when people feel the need to continue to create new threads instead of using the existing ones...
