'Waiting for Newegg': New Site=Awfull Experience

I signed into Newegg tonight and accessed one of my wish lists to check an item spec.  I was able to log in and open the wish list (incredibly slow), but from that point on the experience got worse. (I  was using Firefox on a WinXP system, and refuse to try again with IE.)

I clicked on an item in my wish list and received the following:

    • My  Firefox progress bar showed "Waiting for Newegg" for about 25-35 seconds
    • I then had a blank page that said 'done' in the progress bar
    • I tried on other items in the  wish list and got the same result

I opened a new tab and went to the Newegg home page.  It opened very slowly, and announced it was yet another wonderful "new" home page. I could actually get to a few products from here, but for for the most part, got either a blank screen 'done' message, or a waiting for Newegg message that I terminated after running out of patience.

I tried the same exercise from one of my Ubuntu systems with pretty much the same result.

This current attempt at a new site design seems to be 'not ready for prime time' and may never be.  For tonight it seems to have hosed your site and rendered it unusable for shopping.  I would have to wonder if you are now outsourcing your web design and e-commerce solution to people who don't have a clue about what made Newegg a success.

By the way, I am posting this here on Eggxpert because I was also not able to successfully access the Newegg Customer Service Page and use it's somewhat lame feedback form.

    Regards

     Barbicane

I'm having a horrible time too. Pages take forever to load, and most pages won't even load. Always gets a connection reset message. I am using firefox also.

    "Connection was reset...blah"

    Ditto on the above posts.

Edit: However, it has nothing to do with the site itself, it's the hosting, or something between us and the hosting.

Re: 'Waiting for Newegg': New Site=Awfull Experie

Yep same problem here. The site is pretty much unusable right now. Don't think that is a new home page looks the same as it's been for a while.

Might be the launch of the new CPU's causing it as it seemed to go downhill after they posted those up. Been like this for about 12 hours now.                                                                                                                                              Hard to believe that Newegg would not have enough bandwidth to cover something like that.

Newegg please fix whatever is causing it as I am unable to monitor prices on my last three needed items.

My setup so far all ordered from Newegg except for the monitor and speakers. Got those both locally for under $200 combined during Memorial day specials.
My memory which seems to be non existent on NE now for some reason is OCZ2T8002GK. Come on Eggie bring it back as I need 2 more gigs. :o)

Re: 'Waiting for Newegg': New Site=Awfull Experie

Everyone also needs to consider that quite a few people are looking into the price cuts of the Q6600 and E4400 processors along with the new releases of the E6850, E6750, E6550, and E6540. People have been waiting ever since the first announcement of the new chips and the price cuts. You can see there are numerous threads started on this board in multiple forums discussing the availability of those processors. It's in stock, it's out of stock, it's back in stock, the price changed, and so on and so on. This is also the case on a few other forums I visit.  It seems to me that the Newegg site will be busy above average for at least a few days while people are seeking to purchase those processors. Most enthusiasts knew that July 22nd and shortly after indicated a huge event. You can expect the same when other highly anticipated products are released such as the AMD Phenoms.

Anticipated, that is the key word there. They could of purchased more bandwidth for a week or so to cover the load.

Anyways seems to be working fine now. Wish it wasn't now though as I see the CPU prices I was watching went up quite a bit. Knockout

Oh well moving on to tomorrow and see where they stand.

    Haha. yea. ditto ><

But they're a bussiness, like any other...and they want to milk the hype while they can, let things settle a bit and wait a week or two and I'm sure the prices will go down quite a bit. :-p

Re: 'Waiting for Newegg': New Site=Awfull Experie

    Problems likely a temporary glitch.

Suddenly I can access anything on the Newegg site with no problems.  It appears likely that cman and the two  posts that  preceeded his may be correct about the source of the problem.  Now that it is only us late nighters, the access problem has cleared up.

It does not bode well for Newegg that their current management, and their access providers, apparently had no plans in place for an event that enthusiasts were well aware of, and looking forward to.  I would suspect that they lost sales, not only due to the average customer 's total frustration with the site, but also to impatient enthusiasts who quickly went elsewhere and will stay there.  Not good performance in this day and age.

In response to the person who said this is not a "new site" issue, I typed 'newegg.com' in my address bar and was greeted with an announcement touting a new home page, and an invitation to answer a questionnaire.  I think that Newegg has recently made so called "enhancements" to the site that have made it progressively less usable.  Newegg is still a bit easier to use than Tiger Direct or ZipZoomFly, but seems to get a little less so after each "upgrade".

Hence my comment questioning whether the people responsible for these dubious upgrades might be outside companies that have no clue about what has made Newegg such a successful e-commerce company.

Finding items that meet a specific spec seems to be extremely cumbersome and tedious now.  If you want an example you can try for yourself, run a search using the current left panel categories for an AM2 Heat sink/Fan. Should be pretty simple. This is my experience:

    • After clicking Computer Hardware/Fans & Heatsinks/CPU Fans and Heatsinks (3 clicks) I reach the main page for these products
    • The left column does not initially show AM2, so I have to click 'more'
    • I initially see AM2 down the expanded list, but there are only 8 items.  Some users might have actually assumed that this was it for AM2 Heatsink /Fans, but that did not seem right for the new standard AMD socket.
    • I looked further down the column and found AM2 references, in conjunction with other socket compatibilities in 7 or 8 places where AM2 compatibility was listed in conjunction with other sockets.
    • There are another 50+ AM2 heatsink/coolers noted somewhere in this somewhat randomly structured list
    • It appears that I have  to access 8 or more web pages sequentially to see all of products that match my need
    • Each time I go back to the original page, I must click 'more' again to be able to view the AM2 compatible items in this mess

I think this is a totally backwards structure:

    • What I am looking for (AM2 Compatible Heatsink/Fans) is the superset; i.e. what is important to me during this shopping session.
    • Any other socket compatibilities might be interesting, but are secondary.
    • Why not organize the left panel alphabetically by individual socket type (or put the most recent such as AM2/939  first for AMD, and put older socket types under 'more', if you must use a 'more' function) .  Other compatibilities should be picked up in the individual product spec summaries and pages.

This is just  one example.  This kind of mess seems to have been proliferating as the site has been "upgraded".  The whole drill down and planning structure that originally led me to choose Newegg as the best vendor for a computer hobbyist like me seems have been deteriorating at an alarming rate.

Re: 'Waiting for Newegg': New Site=Awfull Experie

Not to drag this thread on longer as the site is running fine now.

This is in response to Barbicane, that questionnaire has been up there for months. I know because newegg.com has been my homepage most of the time I've been putting my system together. I only did that a few days before the homepage change, kind of freaked me out when it popped up.

     Have a great day all.

I'm having a difficult time browsing newegg as well.  I get some 'element cannot be found' thing.
