Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

Seriously.  I use to be able to search for items where I could display the maximum items on a page and minimizing the amount I have to scroll. Now I'm stuck with this 2" high waste of space per item displayed, making me have to scroll 5 pages what use to be displayed on just one.

Quit ****ing things up for the worse would ya?!

Honestly, I like the "2 inch waste of space per item".  It allows you to see the basic specs of an item before you click on it.  Saves alot of time when your in a hurry.

Re: Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

That's fine, but he old way allowed you to view both summary or detailed view.  Summary view is completely gone with this new version.  I already know the specs of most of the items I'm looking at, I just want to view the price comparisons at a glance.

I didn't even notice they changed the format of the pages.  It's going to be hard to get used to looking for stuff when it's in a different spot now.

Re: Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

I miss the egg rank on each item, that way i knew to avoid certain objects, now i've got to actually click on something to see the bad feedback.

Other than that i think the new look is awesome, was a shock to see it when a friend called asking to build him a new PC, going threw i though Firefox was screwing up, but then it dawned on me, Newegg gots a new look.

If I've helped you in anyway please feel free to rate my post. Thanks :)

Re: Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

Yeah, I'm not digging the new layout, I liked instantly having the eggs and info there.

Edit: If you click (customize your results) you can adjust what shows. Though I still really dislike this new setup... honestly if I didn't like Newegg so much I wouldn't even bother looking for what I need in there anymore. Takes way longer now having to click each bloody thing.

Re: Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

I agree, this new design is garbage. I am having a much more difficult time shopping without the summary views and proper power search functions. I guess newegg wants me to shop elsewhere. I can't imagine what their intention was with making thier site less useful. They need to fire their marketing guys and start over. They just don't get it. :(

Re: Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

This new system looks more 'legit'. I like how it looks but it isnt as good as old way. One of the reasons I like newegg the most is how much more orginized it is. I can get anoyed using Direction or Tigerdirect.

Oh and a note on this. Liquid Cooling should not be in Fans & Heatsinks imo. I think it would be easyer if you made a seperate tab or renamed Fans & Heatsinks to something that works together beter.

Re: Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

Wow! I love the new setup, it's amazing! It's so wide-screen friendly. Big Smile

My only complaint is that... With most computer hardware, having a tiny picture like that means nothing... It's worthless.. If you're browsing through all the monitors, you don't need to have 50,000 little pictures of flowers.. It's not like they're going to help you pick one monitor above another..  If it was a site like Wal-Mart or something, then yea, this would be perfect.. But with a tech site where you order things, I can't say the pictures really add much.

Re: Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

Eh,they change the way it looks when you search... if you change some options you get most of it back though. It "looks" nicer and cleaner, but I think (at least for geeks like me) it's lost some of it's ease of use, due to the tech specs no longer being in your face.

Apparently -sniffles- tech specs are considered ugly... Crying

Re: Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

I agree with with BlackVIper:  Eliminating the egg rank from the browser pages is a serious mistake.  It makes your browse and drill down function much less useful.

I typically used the egg rating judiciously to focus on products in my price range that are least likely to cause me major heartburn.  I understand and adjust to the likelihood  that some form of 80/20 rule likely applies to such reviews e.g.:

    • at least 80% of those receiving a DOA/bad item will post a 1 egg review;
    • less than 20% of those really satisfied will bother to post a 5 egg review;
    • people in between will bother to provide reviews in inverse proportion to satisfaction.

What this means, of course, is that the reviews tend to have a negative skew.  That is no reason to eliminate them from the initial browse and search pages. This just makes it more difficult for the customer to focus on products that will lead to satisfaction.  If vendors have been whining about the upfront impact of too few eggs in the initial browser results, tell them they need to do a better job on overall product quality (including documentation and honest specifications).

You might consider adding a tutorial "Guide to Using Newegg Reviews"  and link it to the review pages.  Provide statistical illustrative examples from several major categories based on actual product shipments vs the reviews by egg category (real, but general without revealing specific commercially sensitive information)

The cosmetic changes are nice, but, other than the check box, not particularly useful.  The end result actually slows me down and increases the time it takes to find the right item for me.  In addition,  is it just me, or has the drill down function become a bit less useful with each of the last several site upgrades?

I am currently planning a "bank shot" upgrade to two of my computers (upgrade involving new parts, and moving parts between computers). The time to build wish lists with alternative configurations seems to have about doubled.  I now have to load a new page for every item of interest to do even a cursory screening for potential problem items.  This is clunky and cumbersome.

You seem to be diluting the very site capabilities that have made Newegg a preferred destination for both newbies and experts.

    Regards

         Barbicane

Yea, when looking for a AM2 specific heatsink its hard to use the guided/power search because each manufacturer has their own socket setup, simplify it to something like this:

    Socket AM2 Compatible
    Socket 939 Compatible
    Socket LGA775 Compatible
    Socket F Compatible
    Socket 1207/FX Compatible
    Ect, ect ect.

Re: Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

I agree that the new layout/design is much less functional & thus...imo...a bad move.  No

I REALLY miss having the egg rankings available at a glance.  Also, finding the "bottom line" price at a quick glance is a bit more difficult since they swapped the font size/bold between the standard price & final price AR.

If Newegg were to put up a poll about this (hint hint), I'd quickly vote against this new design.

Re: Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

Bring back the old look please.

Newegg doesn't look unique anymore, and its really less productive now that you need to click on every product to get some more details - annoying!

eggexpert should add a 'suggestion section' to the newegg threads section of these forums so the newegg folks will have a better chance to see suggestions like this.

Re: Newegg, why f(&(& with a good thing?!?!

This should have been posted over in the newegg.com shopping experience section.  That way the Egg staff read it and might could take care of such things.

But i to am not a fan of the new layout.  If they added the eggs it would be better.  Maybe i just hate getting use to new things.

You can add the eggs back, look above the left side, there is a line that says "customize your results" click that =P

someone needs to tell the chat rep that.

I talked to them and they said it was gone and no where to turn it on.  Nice find though.

Indeed... it's kinda scary when I know more then the rep.

    -clears throat-

On a side note... I do happen to be looking for new employment, if uh, any umm, "New" company would happen to be looking for an employee, that, umm, likes... eggs? Yeah...

Anywho, back to the thread.. you can change a few other deails in there as well, still can't get quite the same info back, but it's close.

I don't like it much either.  Things are oversimplfied and the specs missing I do not like.  Also took me too damn long to figure out how to show the eggs.
