Won't power up

I just finished assembly of my new system and it won't power up. There is power to the board because when I unplug the system and try to power it back up after a couple of minutes the case fan "bumps" but nothing more happens.

Computer Upgrade help

Hi, I need help in determining what would be the best upgrade(s) i could get for my computer. My budget is going to be around 400-450$, and my goal was for it to play CoD:MW2.

My current system:

Athlon 64 X2 5000+ @ 3.2Ghz

2Gb DDR2 667

320Gb Hard drive

8500Gt 512Mb

Foxconn 740G A74MX-K, supports AM3 up to Phenom II X3 720 (i checked)

485W Orion power supply (surprisingly nice and stable) no pci-e

Logitech MX518 + Saitek Eclipse II

I am personally satisfied with my keyboard and hard drive space. Everything else is up in the air, and where i need help figuring out what I should upgrade. I can live with the MX518, but I was looking to upgrade since its pretty old. (2+ years) Don't worry about the monitor and speakers, they are fine. I am pretty fluent with computers also, if that helps.

Maybe computer software should go 10^100

Computer software is an oligopoly. That measn that there's only a few competitors in the industry, just barely enough to avoid monopoly laws. We have Microsoft, we have Apple, and we have Google. Microsoft and Apple are the only ones who create most software types, like operating systems and office applications. We also have the GPL (General Product License) which gives us access to free software, but 99% of this software is buggy, and not inter-compatible with a lot of other software.

Microsoft has a 99% market share in computer software. Most third-party software is designed for Windows first, but only because Windows is the most common; however, Windows is the most common because most software is developed for it first! The cycle continues!

Perhaps we should go 10^100, and ask GOOGLE to start developing lots of software! Not just search engines, email services, and web browsers (like Google Chrome); no, create a Google operating system and get licenses with third party developers. Create a Google line of office applications, video editors, antivirus software, yadda yadda yadda!

Google is already so well-established that they can probably dig a HUGE hole into Microsoft's near monopoly! They have the resources and the foundation to compete with Microsoft, and unlike other "well-established" companies like Exxon Mobile, they specialize in computer software! There's NO reason for not doing this!

The Witcher Enhanced Edition for PC

Hello,

Recently I just installed The Witcher Enhanced Edition for PC only to come out that due to security settings I am unable to play this game. The error I am getting constantly is " You must run this game as an administrator ". Well, this is not the exact wording, but we have all seen this type of error in PC gaming.

So far I have taken the following measures to fix this problem:

1) Told game to run as Administrator ( No luck )

2) Told game to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP 2 ( As mentioned on box as required OS - No luck )

3) Tried to run from disc ( No luck )

4) You tell me ( Lucky )

rnx-easyn400 repeater mode network is unreachable

I caught the RNX-EasyN400 on sale a while back and bought it to use as a repeater to extend the reach of my wireless network. I'm trying to set it up but can't seem to make it work.

I used the setup wizard and selected AP Repeater Mode. I choose the security level of my existing wireless network, entered the SSID and the WEP key. On the final page of the setup wizard, I clicked reboot.

Both the RNX-EasyN400 and my existing router were using the same IP address 192.168.0.1, so I went to the LAN page and changed the IP address of the RNX-EasyN400 to 192.168.0.2. I also changed the wireless band to 2.4Ghz (B) to match the existing router.

I think everything should be setup correctly now as info, the status page shows the following:

I cannot connect to the internet however. I go to the Tools->Diagnostics page and try to ping a reliable site (e.g. yahoo.com). Everytime I get the error message "network is unreachable." If I connect to the existing wireless router (not the RNX-EasyN400), then I can access the internet just fine. I've already updated the firmware to the most recent version 1.0.8 and this did not help.

Any other suggestions?

Fractal Design Define R2

Anyone seen the new Fractal Design Define R2 case? Here's a sneak peak on QuietPC.com. The case was just released for sale in Europe. Not much more info out there at the moment--at least not in English. But that's most likely about to change...

I've been researching cases for a month with Lian Li PC-B10 and Antec P183 emerging among the top choices. However, nothing fits my design goals as well as this case appears to as far as size, quiet operation, case layout and fan placement, additional cooling options, cable management, external port placement and style. Beautiful design.

At a glance, the only thing I'd want to change is the drive cage. I only need 4 bays. Would be nice if it came in two detachable sections so one could be removed for increased airflow, space or external drive mounting options.

Looking forward to some feedback/reviews from those lucky enough to get their hands on a Define R2. Hope it will be available in the U.S. and on Newegg soon...

Interesting Discovery (for me, lol)

I have two Windows 7 computers connected with an Ethernet cable in order to utilize the gigabit LAN, for speedy file transfer between them.

They also share the same internet line (ICS), there's no router, and therefore both computers have the same IP address.

Cable modem --> Computer 1 --> Computer 2

I just discovered I can connect to Computer 2 from Computer 1 using REMOTE DESKTOP CONTROL.

I use the same computer location or IP address when I try to access computer 1 from work and access Computer 2 from Computer 1. In addition, I could access Computer 2 from my PDA phone (with Windows Mobile 6.5) by remotely accessing Computer 1 and starting remote access for Computer 2 within Computer 1 when I was already accessing Computer 1 from a remote location, lol!

I thought the two computers had to have two different IP addresses to do remote desktop control?

I now feel like a kid that just discovered an Easter egg in an eeg hunting game, lol. Computers are amazing.

Dropped Packets on TrendNet TEW-639GR

Hi all,

I have a Trendnet TEW-639GR router, as stated, which I purchased on Newegg about 4 or 5 months ago, and have recently been having some strange wlan issues, which I have not been able to successfully diagnose. I recently have been having more and more disconnects and slowness from my laptops and my ps3. I noticed that during constant pings (on LAN), every 3-4 pings fail. Sometimes it does 10-15, then fails once or twice, but it is fairly consistent.

I have reset the router to factory specs, disconnected all devices but one to test, removed WAN and LAN connections, tried a few things with tech support (ugh!), received replacement unit (refurbished, but with new firmware that is not even available yet from their website) which worked well for about 20 minutes, then began having the same issue, tried all the same steps listed previously in troubleshooting, and still having the same issue.

When connected physically to LAN port, everything is great. 0 failed pings, fast connection to my GB NAS, all is good when on the LAN, compared to the spotty WLAN. When I connect to my old G-router or the local neighborhood hot-spot, I have no issues.

I'm ready to pull my hair out. I'm thinking that this is somehow a problem inherent to the router, but have no idea. If anyone can give me any idea of things to try, I would be extremely grateful.

Steelseries Merc Keyboard issue

I recently purchased this keyboard from newegg and I'm loving it for the most part. I have one minor issue that I just can't find a solution for online. The "Hotkeys" marked " I II III" in the upper left corner are keep bringing up Internet Explorer even though I set it up for say Firefox, Thunderbird etc. I updated the zboard software right out of the box and still cant get rid of this issue. Anyone have any similar problems or a workaround ? Any help is much appreciated!
