    Re: What's your job?

    I sell drugs.

    Well, not really.

I support those who sell drugs.

I'm a data analyst for a drug company, which purchases drugs from manufacturers, and sell to pharmacies, hospitals, retailers, etc. I provide sales trending reports to sales reps, purchase history, inventory reports, etc. Currently i'm writing a few thousand lines of code in VBA to turn an excel sheet into something usable, by calculating based on contract vs non-contract sales, etc, to determine how much of a rebate a customer gets. Formerly, this was a manual practice which allowed for human error, took about 3 days, and needed to be done every month. It'll take me 2 days to write the program, and about a day of testing/data observation. It will be in the exact same format every single time, there will be no allowance for human error, and it'll take about 45 seconds to run. It will also output "summary" information and specialized reports which can be presented to the customer, in a nice and pretty format.

About 50% of my time is spent taking manual processes that people spend days doing, and developing them into scripts that perform in seconds. There used to be 15 people in my department working around the clock on these calcualtions and such. I target each person one by one, take their monthly work-load, and turn it into an afternoon of browsing hte internet while scripts run in hte background. We're down to 4 people now. The rest of the time i run ad-hok requests, along with the 3 other people.

I'm a programmer by nature, it comes easily to me, and i can code in any language i'm put infront of with minimal instruction, because the logic is simple to me, just a matter of interprating the command words from one language to another. I started out as a mule who formatted excel sheets and did calculations, and i said this is stupid, and fired up vba, which i had never coded in before, and within hours had completed my weekly work. My prior coding was in C and VB, but i never did it for a job, just for recreation. Now i'm being pulled by directors in other departments to try and automate a few of their employee's out of existance.

    Re: What's your job?

I’m recently out of the Military.  I spend a lot of time in physical therapy and Dr’s waiting rooms, so lots of time to kill.  I work part time as a phlebotomist in a Medical Lab.  Now I have to figure out what to do next.

If I say something to myself in the forest, and my girlfriend is not there to hear it, am I still wrong?
