Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this
And the # of people who ordered on Dell and Overstock.com and HP who want refunds as well?
NO-ONE has addressed that yet.
Newegg was one of the first E-retail merchants to "run out" of promo $ due to demand. Yet they have one of the smallest infrastructures to respond to this type of development. It takes a while, and they did as best they could (better than most). When people are clamoring for a limited rebate that was finite (time limit was only there to end the offer in case of low demand), and used up - well my "below cost" argument is no longer a "straw man". THE MONEY RAN OUT. THERE IS NO MORE, no matter how much everyone else in line "wants" it. Demanding more just because a sign or splash page is still up will not make the Paypal promo account refill magically. You're asking Newegg to take the (thin enough in retail) margin from their own accounts to cover this? Uh huh.

As far as I can tell this is a Newegg forum, not Dell or Overstock or any other merchant that offered this promo. You want people to address the other merchants. I don't think it even qualifies as a forum, for the short time I have been here. more like the "Good ship Lollipop" propaganda and misinformation site! definitely unaccountable for anything that goes (went) wrong!
why did you team up with(fraudulent) Paypal to begin with? "I smell something stinky" glad I did'nt get to participate!

Actually I'm with you on this one Sandsput (hand out for handshake, bury the hatchet). Massive apologies if I got too personal, I just used to work retail and e-retail and this is a pattern for me... But yeah, Paypal sux imho. As I stated earlier in chat, I'm personally hoping for a: <NewEggVP> Dude we can't do this anymore. It's not worth the headache. <PaypalVP> C'mon man! I'll waive 2 months of fees! Dude! We made a bundle! <NewEggVP> No man, it's totally not worth it anymore. <GoogleVP> Let's make a deal, NewEgg! <NewEggVP> Let's talk, Google...

Exactly. 1) We're here to discuss NewEgg and how they handled (or refuse to handle) the problems they themselves created. 2) The fact that other vendors screwed the pooch on this in no way absolves NewEgg from their responsibility for their own actions. 3) NewEgg sent out a mass mailing to their customers. NewEgg listed the program as running until 11/28. NewEgg continued to list the program as running until 11/28 12 hours AFTER they canceled it. 4) I don't see any Dell fanboys offering the excuse "NewEgg messed up too.." Every vendor is responsible for their own actions. 5) If nobody at NewEgg was bright enough to understand that this program wouldn't last until 11/28 with the quota system imposed the management team needs to be gutted and replaced by some 10 year old kids that have run a lemonade stand successfully. It's absolutely incomprehensible that NE was so unaware of their own business volume that they thought this could last 72 hours when it actually lasted 3 hours.

Dell and Overstock and HP customers should take it up with Dell, Overstock and HP. And they apparently are... Just as Newegg customers are taking it up with Newegg. There is nothing else to discuss about them. Their actions don't absolve NewEgg of theirs.
Newegg's infrastructure is not the concern or problem of its customers. It shouldn't be necessary to keep repeating this. You keep bringing up these types of points that try to say Newegg = good, all others = bad. Yes, we get it. You think NewEgg is good. It's also not the point.
It is another strawman to say I am "...asking Newegg to take the margin from their own accounts to cover this," because I have said in a couple posts that *someone* should offer a make-good on this screw up. I haven't gone into specific details of what that should entail. Aside from their margins also not being the concern or problem of its customers, they still share responsibility in the mess. Which you acknowledge... so I don't know what this back-and-forth is for, other than apologizing for them. They're big boys. They can handle their own PR snafus.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this
It should also be noted that there are those of us who have smaller problems and are only looking for guidance on the issue. For example, I ordered at 5AM PST on Monday with a cart worth $247 expecting that I'd see ~$48 of that back come January. But other than the 20% off graphic upon checkout, I have no way to verify anything on the promotion. And that's the real sticking point... not knowing.

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this
I had never purchased from Newegg before this deal. Speaking as one of those new customers that this deal brought in, I'm still missing the vaunted customer service... I ordered 2 Wii games late last night, and called the moment customer service opened this morning to cancel the order. But, even though my order was "Stage 3" they told me I could not cancel the order and would have to refuse the shipment to the driver. It's now nearly 24 hours since I originally ordered and my order still shows in "Stage 3" - it hasn't been shipped, and it hasn't even yet been packaged to be shipped, yet I can't cancel the order??? How can this possibly be considered good customer service?

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this
While I accept that with this being a newegg related forum, we will have folks who are strong supporters, there are still troubling aspects.
Newegg went in with Paypal on a promotion that bordered on being a scam. Regardless of intention, this is an issue. Further, the lack of internal and external communication should irk customers - if there isn't a clear answer on this, why expect clear answers on other promotion or rebate difficulties?
I certainly don't expect newegg to pay out $50 for everyone affected... I certainly hope they wouldn't -- those costs have to come from somewhere... and I'd bet that $50 would be going into the coffers of another store that doesn't have to recoup the loss.
However, I have yet to see any apology from someone who can fix things, and any type of discussion how any future promo's will be handled differently. Spend the money to have a real countdown when you order -- ("you're the 16,999th and last person to qualify?" And.. of course ... token gifts WOULD be nice (easy to get the list - anyone placing an order with Paypal between Secret-End-Of-Promotion-Time and when it was widely disseminated that it was over).

Re: NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this one
I am an attorney who has specialized in class action litigation for a very long time, and was tinkering with personal computing before most of you learned how to tie your shoe. Newegg is a member of the Better Business Bureau of the Southland, and has a strong 94% satisfied-or-better return on complaints filed with that office.
Folks who are disatisfied with service or contractual purchase arrangements should first contact this BBB office. I am not going to post the BBBOnline component URL for that organization because I don't want people to believe that all of their rights are preserved by filing online. Newegg probably does not want their BBB rating blemished, and it's a viable option to air your grievance in the absence of a placatory hand from Newegg. I would give the company a few days before filing, though.
Unfortunately, I was also caught in this melee of bad planning and I have been watching this thread today, expecting a resolution. I also have full copies of each of the first five pages of posts in this thread saved to my hard drive ... copies of these posts before, that is, an unfortunate and shortsighted change was made by someone with admin privileges in corrupting the original title of this thread. A very base decision and a poor one, my friend. I am glad to pay the extra $9 to my file host to have unlimited downloads of these eggxpert captures made available to the public at large.
You do not want to put the company into a position of defending further poor choices at this point. Shady corruption of the public record and alterations of any kind put Newegg at further risk of alienation from their hard-won customer base...
Thank you-- the address for NewEgg for filing of BBB reports is 9997 East Rose Hills Road Whittier, CA 90601
