    Recommend a laptop

I am loking for a laptop and I am of course totally lost.  I have seen a couple models that I like but none of them seem to have the combination I want.  I am sort of leaning towards an ASUS because I used the P6T Deluxe V2 in my build and have the VK246H 24" monitor and I love both of them.  The main things I am looking for are a good graphics card, a 260 would be ideal but I can compromise.

Screen size is not really critical but I would like a Blu-Ray player I can attach to my television with preferrably an HDMI.  I would also like to have decent battery life and this is a sticking point with some good ASUS models.  A couple I have been looking at have a portion of the features I am looking for but a 1.5 hour or less battery life and that sucks.  Of course I would like a decent processor but to keep the cost down a core 2 duo is acceptable.  Ram should of course be a minimum of 4G and I would ideally like Windows 7.

So can anyone point me to something that might fill my needs, the 2 main things for me are Blu-Ray and battery life but the decent video card is VERY CLOSE.  OK lastly I would like to stay as close to a grand as possible, I know I can find all of this in some 2k+ Alienware or similar but I would like to stay below $1200

    Tough demands here lol!

The thing is, Blu-ray and HDMI output still costs quite a lot. Also, anything like a GTX 260 mobile will cost even more. And having both of those pretty much necessitates a fast processor to keep up. And by then, its pretty much impossible to get good battery life or a price tag around a grand.

If you're looking for a value gaming/multimedia desktop replacement, those are just some drawbacks. But the best manufacturers for those kinds of notebooks are still Asus, maybe Toshiba, and of course, the expensive Alienware.

    Re: Recommend a laptop

Asus makes some good laptops that fits the bill with high prices and a lot of Sony laptops with Blu-ray DVD thus equipped with poor Intel GMA 4500 IGP. You will have to wait for a while for more laptops with Blu-ray Drives.

    Re: Recommend a laptop

So can anyone recommend a specific model.  I currently play World At War on my desktop but could go back to UO while I am on my laptop so I can give a little on the graphics card.  I just thought having a Blu-Ray might be a little more justification so I can use it in place of a normal Blu-Ray player.

Per one review from the cnet, the Sony Vaio FW270J/W is highly rated blu-ray laptop for its modern configuration and a very reasonable price. you may want to read itSmile

Yeah, Vaio FW's are great. One of my friends has one and she's really happy with it (although it is a bit on the big side). You'll get the nice Blu-ray drive and full 1080p monitor, but the graphics won't be GTX 260M level. Still a nice mid-high end Radeon though.
