Adding a case fan to be controlled by Mobo...

I haven't actually started this build yet but UPS tracking says "out for delivery" so I will be very soon.  I know this is kind of trivial but when you're doing a new build you want everything right.  The Antec 902 case allows two additional fans.  I want to add one to the side panel.  Antec says use the Tri Cool 120mm fan, but I want to connect it to the Asus mobo where it will increase or decrease in speed according to temp.  Since the Tri Cool fan has three settings (low, medium, and high) would I set it to high and let the mobo do the rest or do I need a different type of fan.

Also, I would have gotten an after market cooler but $$$ was tight and something had to give.  I will be getting one in the near future for overclocking.  Just wondering what folks with similar CPUs are using.

I would suggest any of Scythe's "slipstream" 120mm fans

however any good 120mm fan wt a 3pin connector should fit your needs.

when you decide to properly cool that hot beast of a Cpu

head here to see what's what.

Re: Adding a case fan to be controlled by Mobo...

I would set the fan to high and then let the MOBO do the work. I believe the tri-cools simply have an internal resistor for speed control. Most fans without that simply run on max all the time and are controlled by the MOBO, so it should work.

If that doesn't work, you can always try a non speed regulated fan like the Slipstream as recommended above, which is a great fan.
