    Motherboard or CPU issue

I Just ordered some stuff for a computer upgrade i got: MSI NF980-G65, AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE , and 4 gigs of ddr3 corsair ram.

When I finished putting everything together the lights and the fans in the system would turn on for half a second and turn off. I also noticed that the MB is also deformed a little bit in one corner! so is it the motherboard or the cpu's fault?

Re: Need help! system won't boot!

Are you sure the main board is mounted correctly?

Take the MB out of the case, lay it on some plain brown carboard, only install the bare essentials (1 stick of ram etc.) and try to get it to post that way.

I did that and it still does the same thing. I also unpluged the cpu and ram  and it does the same thing -.- . does this mean the MB is defective?

    To Weiasian.

I think your motherboard is defective. try to return or RMA to the manufacture if it's still warranty.  MSI motherboard is really bad I just experiencing with that manufacture in couple week ago. so I change to ASUS motherboard instead using MSI.

Don't be so easily swayed.  I have had nothing but trouble with ASUS for years.  Every manufacturer has their problems.  Buy a board with the options you like and a chipset from a reliable manufacturer and you will be OK.

For someone to come out here, and simply say"MSI boards are bad" is simply wrong. As others have pointed out, every maker has a few bad apples.

I have been using MSI boards for many yrs now,and not one has ever given me a bit of trouble. In contrast a Foxconn I got turned to be a piece of junk, same thing with an ECS,2 Asus boards had bad caps, right out of the box etc.
