monitor unable to show native res with windows7

From what ive seen upon reading around online this is an issue others are having as well but i am unable to select my monitors native resolution. The highest it will go is 1600x1200. I was wondering if there was some fix/work around for this as there are no drivers on the monitors cd and windows simply recognizes it as a generic non PnP monitor.

    Its a VK246H hdmi 24 inch widescreen monitor w/native res of 1920x1080

Re: monitor unable to show native res with windows7

What is your video card, and have you installed proper drivers for it?

When I installed Win7, it loaded 'Generic VGA' driver, and showed my monitor as 'Generic PnP Monitor' and would only let me go to 1600x1200.   It also would not do Aero.

After I downloaded from ATI and installed proper drivers for my HD5770, my real monitor model showed up (via DVI EDID), and I was able to set 1920x1200.

Looks like monitor might not be providing proper EDID.   Might want to download moninfo and see what it says.

Did you go to the ASUS site and download the proper monitor drivers?

Re: monitor unable to show native res with windows7

    ISSUE RESOLVED:

i have fixed my issue with native res. I certainly feel like a fool for not realizing the problem sooner. my gpu card i have for this rig had 2 adapter ports on the back for monitor hookup, one for hdmi and one for normal vga. All the connectors on the vid card were neatly capped off with nice blue hued cover pieces. I apparently just decided to glance through the caps and think "ooh they both look the same so ill just pop one off and connect monitor -.- )  I apparently had connected the vga adapter piece through the hdmi adapters port >.<  FINALLY MY RES IS BACK!!

    GAME ON!

So hopefully others that i saw in various other posts in other forums that were having res problems will have just as easy fixes as i did, my last gpu i believe only had 1 adapter so it was a bit new to me haha. learn through experience u guess.
