Frustrated [doh] GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 Memory/RAM Issue

I recently built a new machine with RAM I suspect isn’t being detected by bios because of an incorrect setting (perhaps voltage). Otherwise, maybe some of the ram slots are defective? I am going nuts trying to figure this out, so please help. I have tried different voltage settings for the ram (set to 1.65V) and lowered timings as well…..nothing seems to work.

Essentially, only 4GB ram is detected when 12GB total should be. I have also tried removing the ram and using only the white slots for 4GB in triple channel mode to no avail. Once again, the motherboard only detects 4GB! Only today have I read that this motherboard typically uses ram rated at 1.5v, but I decided on it because of reviews I had seen on newegg.com from other customers pairing it with the GA-EX58-UD5 Motherboard. Can anyone out there please lend me some advice? I would truly appreciate it!

Well looks like you did not do your research on the motherboard

     http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2961&ProductName=GA-EX58-UD5

     Memory:

    1. 6 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 24 GB of system memory (Note 1)
    2. Dual/3 channel memory architecture
    3. Support for DDR3 2100+/1333/1066/800 MHz memory modules

(Go to Memory Support List for the latest memory support list.)

Per QVL in red at the bottom Memory Support List (PDF)

    (Note1)

According to Intel spec definition that XMP DIMMs and DDR3-1600 above are supported for one DIMM per channel only

    (Note2)

When enabling Dual Channel mode with 2 memory modules, be sure to install them in the DDR3_1 and DDR3_3 sockets

    (Note3)

When enabling 3 Channel mode with 3 memory modules, be sure to install them in the DDR3_1, DDR3_3 and DDR3_5 sockets

When enabling 3 Channel mode with 4 memory modules, be sure to install them in the DDR3_1, DDR3_2, DDR3_3 and DDR3_5 sockets

I have heard this issue with EVGA motherboard, You need to enable a BIOS option called "Remap memory hole" if there is such option on the Gigabyte mobo.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I did jump the gun a bit, but check out what these two customers recommended on newegg....I wonder why they haven't had any issues? :/

They have 6GB and 12GB of the same corsair modules running with the motherboard. Has anyone out there tried the corsair kit(s) with the gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 motherboard I'm using?

     Thanks

Umm no that is not two customers only one and it can be recognized as this so the one that says ApolloX did not buy from Newegg just added a fake comment.

This user purchased this item from Newegg

Newegg Purchasers <--- go back to that link and put a check mark in the box and then click apply and this is what will come up.

Also put in what O/S you are using as well Windows XP, Vista, 7 and is it 32 or 64.

    Re: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 Memory/RAM Issue

Ummm.... Either way, the guy who did buy from newegg didn't seem to have any issues.

I am using both windows7 64bit and XP64 in a dual boot config. This is a bios/motherboard issue.

There has to be some possible config out there that will allow for all 12GB to be recognized (albeit at lower timings most likely)

    Anyone?

    Re: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 Memory/RAM Issue

    Did you update your BIOS?

    Onboard RAID vs. 3Ware RAID

I never recommend people run RAID-5 with onboard chipsets.

    Re: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 Memory/RAM Issue

I did. It has been updated to the latest on gigbyte's site. I thought they may provide better compatibility with the new bios, but no luck so far unfortunately.

Ok hit CTRL+F1 in the BIOS there is area in there to change  mem settings, Such as cas latency. ok well you said it was showing 4GB of RAM so I was making sure that it was not 32bit.
