Using a TV instead of a regular monitor?

I've been using a 22" LCD monitor for quite a while now and I'm considering getting using a flat TV as a monitor instead.

Is there anything I should need to know? Any good brands I should look out for?

     Thanks, Alfx

Brand depends on the TV: Samsung and LG make the best LCDs (in fact, they're the only ones that actually make the LCDs).

Make sure that the TV has a resolution that matches the max you want to use (that your graphics card supports). I don't think any TVs have DVI ports (a lot have VGA/D-sub), but if your card supports HDMI you could always connect that way. You could do S-video, but I never had much luck with that, but that could be me.

If you've already got a TV similar to what you're looking for, experiment with ways of connecting your computer and changing resolutions (usually it's in the TV's menu) to see what works/looks best.

S-Video is not HD, so definitely you don't want to be using that.

If he wants recommendations, I think he should post the reasons why he's moving from a monitor to a TV instead of just buying a bigger monitor.. Doesn't make much sense to me to replace a monitor with a bigger screen and lower resolution..

    Onboard RAID vs. 3Ware RAID

I never recommend people run RAID-5 with onboard chipsets.

My current monitor is quite small and only goes up to 1680x1050, an HDTV 1080p would go up to 1920x1080.

I believe I could play both PC games and console games more easily using a TV than a PC monitor, not to mention....well watching TV/movies on it.

That's pretty much my reasons for "upgrading"

I would focus my search on Sony, Samsung, and possibly LG.
