celeron dual core vs core 2 solo

which one is better? im talking about on a thin and light notebook.

http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=42779,37133, this is intel's specs comparison of the two processors im looking at.

the core 2 notebook is about 450 while the celeron is 400.

Re: celeron dual core vs core 2 solo

Get the one with two, I find it retarded that they call it Core 2 Solo but only contains one core. Two will serve you better for multi-tasking and encoding media.

    Reasons to get Windows 7:
    Snap to maximize windows
    Formatting huge hard drives
    It's Vista but better

The ASUS M4A78-E sucks, don't get it.

Get the dual core, no question.

Re: celeron dual core vs core 2 solo

Core 2 is the name of the actual core series and has nothing to do with how many cores are in the CPU.  Since solo means 1, then they called the CPU Core 2 Solo meaning that it is built on Core 2 technology but only contains 1 core.  Hence the reason why a Core 2 Duo has 2 cores and a Core 2 Quad has 4.

Re: celeron dual core vs core 2 solo

It should also be noted that Celeron Dual Core CPU's are also built on Core 2 technology.  They just don't have as much cache and speed.  In the case of the original post, I have to agree that the Celeron Dual Core is the better processor.

A little contradictory but I think it's just a stupid marketing scheme with "longer battery" life slapped onto it. You want two, you might not think so but it's super handy for newer OSs and some programs.
